RUSH UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER IS SEEKING A TACTICAL AND STRATEGIC SYSTEM DIRECTOR OF PAYROLL!

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

The System Director of Payroll is responsible for providing operational, managerial and strategic direction for the payroll function for over 10,000 plus Rush employees. This role provides critical leadership to develop and control payroll policies and procedures, the vision to build and transform the processes and systems to best in class capabilities and drive overall operational excellence and results. The System Director of Payroll cultivates a strong, customer-focused environment with emphasis on driving timely and accurate payroll results, in compliance with state, federal and IRS regulations. This individual is also a member of the Senior Finance Leadership Team and a key business partner to Human Resources, Compensation and Benefits who supports enterprise-wide projects that incorporate proactive and innovative solutions to addressing business challenges and achieving organization goals and objectives. The holder of this position must fully understand the impact the payroll operation has to the financial operations of the organization as well as the impact on the overall financial statements of Rush. Confidentiality is of utmost importance for this position due to the sensitive nature of the data.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

*

Manage, lead and execute the overall payroll strategy for Rush and related entities.
*

Direct and manage payroll staff to ensure accurate bi-weekly payroll processing through accurate employee labor and payroll records in accordance with company policy and labor regulations.
*

Manage all aspects of payroll accounting, including general ledger posting and balance sheet reconciliations of accrued payroll and tax liabilities, and other miscellaneous as assigned.
*

Maintains and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations and IRS tax reporting requirements.
*

Oversee the employee direct deposit and pay card account process, including working closely with Human Resources to roll out new programs across the enterprise, as well as problem-solving/troubleshooting issues.
*

Ensure compliance in garnishment processing, including reporting and agency interaction.
*

Manage internal and external payroll audits as requested or required.
*

Leads customer service focused team of payroll professionals to respond to pay, benefit, payroll tax, and compensation related inquiries from management, employees, and outside agencies.
*

Maintains awareness of current practices in payroll processing and keeps the various departments within Rush informed about changes in all current payroll and tax regulations, laws and policies.
*

Promote, develop and train all employees within the payroll department by company standards and guidelines to build a strong culture and team.
*

Works regularly with Human Resources, IT, and Corporate Finance to maintain a collaborative work environment creating a culture of operational excellence directly related to enterprise payroll systems including Infor (Lawson) HR/Payroll and API and Kronos timekeeping systems including set up and ongoing maintenance.
*

Partners with Pension Office to ensure payroll and pension transactions are reconciled and in compliance with Rush s pension and 403(b) plans.



POSITION QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

*

American Payroll Association Certification or CPP preferred
*

Experience in high volume environment with both union and non-union employees
*

Experience with complex human resource and payroll management information systems
*

Prior experience in Health Care industry strongly preferred
*

Experience performing accounting, reconciliation, and internal control, preferably in an academic medical center environment with significant sponsored research activities
*

At least five to seven years of relevant leadership experience in leading payroll operations and compensation accounting management.
*

Bachelor s Degree in Accounting, Finance or business administration or the equivalent combination education and experience
*

Accounting skills including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
*

Collaborative approach based on the ability to listen and value others opinions to drive performance and results.
