JOB DESCRIPTION

COBHAM is seeking an ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER to work with the Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager to insure a safe working environment and compliance with our safety and environmental regulations. This position is located in Davenport, IA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Develop site-specific Environmental and Safety protocols

* Collect data from various sources and prepare reports for internal and external customers

* Plan, prepare and conduct required training on safety programs and SOPs, maintaining training records. Conduct interdepartmental inspections and audits to assure safety and environmental compliance

* Participate in regulatory inspections

* Performs all operations according to prescribed safety and environmental principles

* Monitor progress of Safety and Environmental improvement programs

* Occasional travel may be required

* Employee will also perform duties within specific focus area assigned

* May lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally

* Climb stairs and ladders

* Ensure the job is being performed in a safe and compliant manner by performing site safety audits, documenting findings, and following up on potential issues

* Ensure the Job Hazard/ Safety Analysis (JHA/ JSA) has been completed and communicated to all workers onsite

* Provide guidance and ensure any required permits (Confined Space Entry, Hot Work, etc) are completed before allowing the job to continue

* Ensure workers have access to and are using proper PPE for identified hazards

* Perform job site walks with Operations as necessary in order to write site-specific health & safety plans

* Assist area supervisors, investigate incidents and prepare a written report with corrective actions

* Maintain and inspect safety equipment as needed

* Manage Safety Committee Program

* Assist in developing needed training

* Assist in conducting New Hire Safety Orientation

* Maintain OHSAS 18001 certification, develop proposed project objectives and targets, and report on progress

* Maintain Housekeeping Program including completing housekeeping audits based on required frequency

* Serve as a safety and technical resource throughout the company

* Prepare, review, and update environmental investigation and recommendation reports. Obtain, update, and maintain plans, permits, and standard operating procedures

* Provide technical-level support for environmental remediation projects, including remediation system design and determination of regulatory applicability

* Inspect facilities and programs to evaluate operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with environmental regulations

* Maintain ISO 14001 certification, develop proposed project objectives and targets, and report on progress

* Inform company employees and other interested parties of environmental issues

* Assess the existing or potential environmental impact of land use projects on air, water, and land

* Coordinate and manage environmental protection programs and projects, assigning and evaluating work

* Serve as liaison with federal, state, and local agencies and officials on issues pertaining to solid and hazardous waste program requirements

* Design systems, processes, and equipment for control, management, and remediation of water, air, and soil quality

* Conduct hazardous waste management studies. Assess, sort, characterize, and pack known and unknown materials

* Prepare hazardous waste manifests and land disposal restriction notifications

* Maintain industrial wastewater treatment systems

* Develop and maintain Business Continuity Plans

* Advise facility on the best ways to expand reuse and recycling of waste

* All other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

* Bachelors degree

* 5 years related work experience in a manufacturing environment in a safety or environmental role

* CSP or CHMM certification

* 3 years experience conducting ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001 compliance audits and documenting in audit trails

* This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Knowledge and expertise in OSHA, EPA, HAZOP, RCRA, NFPA and PSM regulations preferred

* Training/Certifications - RCRA 40 CFR, DOT 49 CFR, and HAZWOPER 29 CFR 1910 Training

* Understanding of manufacturing operations and processes

* Experience conducting group training
