Assists/advises the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences in the administration of diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, procedures, and strategies. Serves as the primary administrative contact for these matters in the College. Contributes to the composite strength of the College administrative staff by providing advice and effective administrative support and leadership. In particular, the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is responsible for providing diversity education and training, overseeing climate assessments, and supporting diversity-related recruitment/retention, programming, external support, and evaluation efforts across the College and for students, faculty, and staff. This Associate Dean will also collaborate on campus-wide diversity initiatives.

Length and Type of Appointment: Five-year term appointment. The Associate Dean is appointed by and reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Associate Dean will hold a 0.50-time administrative appointment in the College, with primary responsibilities for addressing issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The remaining FTE of the appointment will be in the individual s academic departmental appointment during the academic year. This appointment serves at the pleasure of the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.

Job Description
(.50 FTE) Associate Dean Duties:

Serves as an effective liaison between the Dean and chairs/directors of CLAS units;
Assists the Dean in facilitation of the recruitment, development, and retention of outstanding and diverse College faculty, staff, and students in which women and minorities are fully represented;
Provide leadership to the College in assessment of diversity strengths and challenges, development of College diversity objectives, implementation of strategies, and evaluation of outcomes;
Serve as a member of the College s senior leadership team and work with senior leaders to establish a diversity leadership and accountability structure throughout the College that includes all departments and sub-units;
Advise chairpersons/directors about equity, diversity and inclusion issues in their unit;
Collaborate with all relevant offices across campus to achieve diversity and inclusion objectives;
Consider procedures and guidelines to enhance equity and diversity in search, selection, promotion, tenure, and compensation cases for faculty;
Develop targeted and comprehensive retention efforts targeted at unique barriers for diverse students, faculty, and staff;
Organize workshops, seminars, and forums to provide equity, diversity, and inclusion education, training, consultation and guidance for faculty, staff, and students;
Serve as the College s liaison to all units across campus working on diversity and inclusion objectives; participate in a network of University diversity representatives; and work to further develop and refine the university-wide process for implementation of diversity goals;
Oversee research, teaching, and/or service in the support of diversity, equity, and inclusion that targets the College broadly or specific units as needed (and that fall outside the Associate Dean s own Faculty interests and duties);
Foster and oversee efforts to obtain external support for diversity and inclusion efforts for the College broadly and for specific units as needed (and that fall outside the Associate Dean s own Faculty interests and duties); and,
Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

(.50 FTE) Faculty Duties:

20% Teaching/Advising
Teach two courses per year in his/her field of specialty.
Advise students, including student mentoring and providing directed readings.
Supervise graduate teaching assistants, as assigned.
Serve on committees that supervise and evaluate student progress.

20% Research
Engage in scholarly research, including publishing appropriate peer-reviewed books and articles and presenting papers at professional conferences on a regular basis

10% Service
Provide general service to one s home unit, the College, the University, the state, and to the profession

Required Qualifications
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application and (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in c.v.:

Applicant for the position must have:

* A record of excellence in teaching and scholarship and a commitment to liberal education;

* Hold a tenured faculty appointment in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences with a rank of Associate or Full Professor;

* Demonstrated capacity for leadership in a comprehensive university;

* Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity and commitment to faculty; and, student concerns and interests; and

* Demonstrated expertise in student, staff and faculty development.

Preferred Qualifications

* Demonstrated administrative and budgetary experience based in leading a unit and holding primary responsibility for its activities and execution (e.g., chair/director of a program, center, institute, department, or school);

* Demonstrated leadership experience in departmental, College, or University activities dealing with academic matters;

* Demonstrated scholarly reputation and track-record of research and creative works in the domain of diversity, equity, and inclusion broadly defined which can include work that focuses on these variables as core constructs as well as work that includes a focus on under-represented groups as its primary subject matter and/or participant base;

* Demonstrated initiative and participation in curriculum development and innovation, faculty and staff recruitment, and scholarly program development;

* Demonstrated experience in seeking private support in partnership with the KU Endowment Association; and

* Demonstrated leadership or involvement in initiatives related to DEI on campus.
