* Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking to hire a Space Weather Scientist 3 or 4 who researches, develops, analyzes, verifies, tests, and documents scientific principles, data, and models related to the field of space weather\. Fields such as ionospheric, solar, and magnetospheric physics are of particular interest\.Roles & Responsibilities:

- Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with systems engineers, software engineers, and other scientists in the planning, design, development, and integration of scientific applications in an operational setting
- Interacts with scientists from government, academia, and industry to stay aware of the latest scientific developments in the field
- Make recommendations to improve scientific quality and the efficiency or usability of the data and models
- Participate in program and customer evaluation of options\. Conducts and actively participates in peer reviews contributing technical expertise to peers to proactively resolve issues before larger problems emerge
- Develop software for the purpose of analyzing data and model output and writes detailed technical reports\. This position supports the space weather mission on the SEMS III contract and is located on Offutt Air Force Base at the 557th Weather Wing\.This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed belowBasic QualificationsThis requisition may be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4BQs for a level 3 are a Bachelor's degree in Ionospheric, Solar, or Magnetospheric Physics, or related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience\.BQs for a level 4 are a Bachelor's degree in Ionospheric, Solar, or Magnetospheric Physics, or related field and a minimum of 9 years of related experience\.- Software development \(numerical methods, scientific prototyping, etc\.\)- Languages:
FORTRAN, C , IDL, and Java- Operating System familiarity \(Linux, Windows\)- U\.S\. citizenship- DoD Secret security clearance eligible- Ability to work well within a teamPreferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Ionospheric, Solar, or Magnetospheric Physics, or related field- Active DoD secret security clearance- Software engineering principles \(architecture, design patterns, OO design\)- Research and Development experience- Agile software development framework- Automated testing tools \(e\.g\. Selenium, Cucumber, or TestComplete\)- Experience with Mercurial or other distributed source control- Atlassian toolset \(Jira, Confluence, Fisheye, & Crucible\)- File formats:
