These positions will be located in McLean, VA\.Put your years of knowledge into a future of excellence\. The qualified applicant will join our Northrop Grumman's AWIPS Team\. AWIPS is a system of systems for processing, display, and telecommunications used by the National Weather Services \(NWS\)\. AWIPS ingests and integrates meteorological, hydrological, satellite, radar data, and it processes and distributes the data to Weather Forecast Offices, River Forecast Centers, and National Centers\. Weather forecasters use AWIPS to make weather, water, and climate predictions and to issue advisories, watches, and warnings\.AWIPS is used operationally by NWS forecasters and hydrologists 24 hours a day, 365 days a year\.Roles and Responsibilities:
The Deployment/Release Management team coordinates, manages, and supports the installation of products and systems into the field\. In addition, the team supports all Level 3 trouble ticket escalations from the Network Control Facility \(NCF\) Operations\.Specific Deployment team responsibilities include:
1\) Review content of deliverable documentation for delivery to Customer, including Field Maintenance Kits \(FMKs\) package, installation procedures, scripts, tools, and updated System Documentation2\) Confirm NWS's authorization to proceed with OT&E \(Beta\) testing of Software Release or Field Maintenance Kit3\) Review Software Release test results prior to delivery to Customer4\) Coordinate schedules for hardware/software shipments with NWS HQ and Site POCs5\) Coordinate Site installation schedules for all software releases and/or hardware FMKs6\) Provide Site installation and OT&E/Beta test support to field sites7\) Provide Level 3 support through NCF trouble ticket escalation process8\) Verify fielded performance of all FMKs and/or Software Releases9\) Support the NCF in the hardware maintenance and logistics activities for failure repair/replacement or maintenance activities and any efforts that require expertise beyond the base Level 1/2/3 support\. This level of Logistics/Domain expertise can be drawn upon for troubleshooting and/or restoration of services for more complex issues\.Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Science in Engineering, Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or related field- Minimum of 9 years of work experience in operational weather services or supporting the National Weather Service \(NWS\)- Knowledge of AWIPS NCF operations and NWS Field Site Operations- Experience in planning and supporting technology refresh cycles without disruption to operational systems- Must have strong, hands\-on experience with UNIX and/or Linux operating system- Experience in providing technical direction and Operational Support for a complex, mission\-critical hardware/software system- Ability to support a flexible work schedule and/or be on\-call to support operational NWS sites, including days, evenings/nights, and weekends- Experience with systems engineering processes and the configuration management of large systems- Ability to quickly understand complex technical problems and devise effective technical solutions- Experience in supporting the deployment of hardware solutions to a mission critical enterprise- Ability to analyze configurations and uncover issues that impact operational perfomance- Ability to quickly respond to site problems escalated from the NCF and site personnel- Must have strong, hands\-on experience in UNIX and/or Linux environment- Ability to work multiple competing priorities- Work well as both an individual contributor and as part of an integrated team where adherence to project conventions are highly valued- Demonstrated ability to communicate with different levels of employees \(managers, supervisors and team members\)- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills- Possess strong work ethic- U\.S\. citizenship and ability to pass a Government background check is requiredPreferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AWIPS software or other NOAA software projects- Experience with AWIPS Enterprise, including knowledge of AWIPS communications infrastructure, including Satellite Broadcast Network/NOAAPORT, Message Handling System, network and site data flows, etc\.- Knowledge of key AWIPS technologies including network and serial communication protocols, and Linux operating system environments- Dedicated to delivering strong, customer\-focused performance in a mission\-critical environment- Experience in Red Hat System Administration and Security \(specifically RHEL and Satellite\)- Familiarity with open source tools and the installation and integration into a mission critical systemNorthrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce\.
