* The Medium Range Tactical Systems \(MRTS\) Control Segment organization requires a Software Engineer for the programs supported by the MRTS Control Segment team including the Tern, Firebird, and Advanced Systems programs\. The Control Segment Software Engineer will be developing next\-generation user interfaces and messaging & services for these programs\. The Tern program is a DARPA program to launch & recover a UAV off a DDG ship to deploy persistent ISR and strike capabilities almost anywhere in the world\. The Firebird is an Optionally Piloted Aircraft \(OPA\) that can be flown by an on\-board pilot or remotely from the Firebird Control Segment\. The Firebird OPA also includes the capability to integrate multiple payloads and sensors on\-board the aircraft\. The MRTS Control Segment team also supports Advanced Systems programs\. The Control Segment Software Engineer will be developing Control Segment software to support all of these programs\.The Control Segment Software Engineer will work in a team environment using Agile Software Development Processes to rapidly develop, integrate, and test software capabilities\.The Control Segment Software Engineer is required to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
+ Develop the user interfaces using Java FX and Java Swing for command & control of the UAVs and on\-board payloads+ Develop modular OSGi\-based services for vehicle, payload, and comms command & control+ Ability to understand the UAV System including Vehicle Management, Mission Management, and Control Segment to provide technical solutions and capabilities+ Integrate, test, and validate software in a state\-of\-the\-art lab environment+ Collaborate with Systems Engineering and Test organizations to verify software capabilities meet system and software requirements+ Collaborate with Vehicle and Mission Management Software teams for system design and interface definition+ Execute tasks within an Agile software development environment and report daily progress to the Control Segment Software Lead+ Ability to demonstrate to internal and external customers the UAV System capabilities+ Disposition and fix bugs discovered in lab and at flight test events+ Support program meetings, milestone reviews, and travel as requiredBasic Qualifications:
+ Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or equivalent+ Must have experience with Java\.+ Must have experience with _at least three_ of the following technologies:
JavaFX, CSS, Java Swing, XML, XSLT, REST, SOAP, OSGI, Maven, Spring, Apache Karaf, Apache Felix, JMS, ActiveMQ\.+ Familiarity with Atlassian tool suite including Confluence, JIRA, Crucible, and Team City and developing in an agile development environment\.+ Strong understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in software engineering\.+ Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult programs\. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with program objectives\.+ Work under only general direction and independently determines and develops approach to solutions\.+ Makes significant contributions to the completion of program objectives and milestones\.Preferred Qualifications:
An advanced degree in Engineering or Computer Science is preferred\. Experience in the following areas:
Unmanned Systems preferably Firebird and Tern systems; UAV messaging standards \(STANAG 4586, UCS\); RTI DDS; software development with NASA World Wind and OpenGL; Video processing and video digital standards; familiarity with Northrop Grumman Software Development processes, SEI CMMI Level 5, AS9100, IEEE compliant software engineering practices or the DO\-178B / DO\-178C standard;Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce\.
