* Position Summary:

* Under general supervision, plans, develops, organizes, and administers and communicates City of Hope's Leave of Absence, Workers' Compensation and Return to Work programs to COH employees\. Works in conjunction with the Legal and Employee and Labor Relations staff on employment actions related to leaves of absences\. Duties include reviewing and processing claims, recommending loss control strategies, and ensuring conformance to applicable laws and regulations\. Acts as liaison to disability administrators and vendors associated with leave programs\. Develops, coordinates and monitors employee return to work programs\. Effectively coordinates all cases/claims under the Leave of Absence programs to include general administration, comprehensive case management and program compliance with the various Family and Medical Leave Acts and all related employment laws\. Assists in improving safety performance and participates in creating and implementing safety directives\.*
* Key Responsibilities include:

*
* + Consult with and advise COH employees and managers on leave of absence policies, procedures and benefits associated with leaves of absences; respond to inquiries with a focus on providing a high level of customer service\. + Process short\-term disability claims; monitor claims until resolution\. Coordinate all aspects related to Return to Work program\. Act as a resource to both employees and managers\. + Interpret and apply policies and procedures related to leave administration program; develop and recommend improvements and/or revision to policies, procedures and processes\. + Coordinate with internal customers \(Payroll & Benefits\) to monitor status of claims and influence actions to resolve leave of absence processing issues\. + Serve as primary contact with external customers \(disability administrators and LOA software vendor\) regarding ongoing issues such as claims handling and policy/coverage issues; primary contact with medical providers and insurance companies related to leaves of absences\. + Makes extensive use of information systems to generate leave of absence letters; extract and report LOA data, including trend analysis; involved with systems upgrades\. + Provide ongoing training on leaves of absences and disability management to employees and managers\.Develop training materials as needed and attends meetings as required, and participates on committees as directed\. + Investigates disputes and grievances, collects data, prepares reports and consults on appropriate corrective action\. + Attend conferences or seminars related to leaves of absence or workers' compensation as necessary\. + Process workers' compensation claims; act as a resource for injured worker and supervisor\. + Collaborate with both internal customers and external customers to ensure applicable workers' compensation benefits are provided in an accurate and timely manner\. + Monitor the employment status of employees on leaves of absence; coordinate employment related decisions with Employee Relations staff including expiration of leave time, terminations and other employment based actions\. + Maintains LOA and workers' compensation files\. + Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality\. + Corresponds with medical providers and attorneys, analyzes and interprets medical reports\. + Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints, evaluates problems and takes appropriate actions to resolve issues and concerns\. + Oversees and ensures an efficient records maintenance systems for workers' compensation claims and related information, data and activities\. + Develops, recommends and implements Leave of Absence and Workers' Compensation policies and procedures\. + Prepares and presents staff reports and other correspondence as appropriate*

* 5\+ years' experience with related functions, such as leaves of absences, employee relations, benefits, payroll, time and attendance and customer service
