Harris Corporation is currently seeking a Sr Linux Systems Administrator to join our research team at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC (located near the Wilson Bridge and off of 295). This is a highly dynamic research environment where you will be working with cutting edge theories and technology. The Sr. Linux Systems Administrator will be part of a small team managing centralized IT services on unclassified and classified networks for over 5000 users at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. This is a challenging position working with a wide variety of technologies. The position will initially support daily operation within the environment and provide installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of heterogeneous systems and networks which provide service to NRL and the international community. This position will involve shared responsibility for systems architecture, engineering, and administration for a complex systems environment. Ample opportunities are available within the environment for growth in responsibilities, cross-training with other team members, and participation in unique customer projects. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and be able to take on tasks quickly with minimal initial training. Strong organizational, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with a high level of attention to detail are required to succeed in this diverse environment. Requirements:* Must be able to work as part of the team while also being able to take concepts or problems and work independently to resolve issues* Possess strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills* Candidate must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a variety of technical and non-technical personnel* Requires the ability to work periodically within a datacenter environment, including the ability to safely move equipment unassisted up to 50 pounds Qualifications:* BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related technical field and minimum 5 years of systems administration experience is required
* Candidate must possess proven administration ability on RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and/or CentOS 5, 6, and/or 7
* Must have ability to write and debug shell (bash) scripts, and leverage configuration management solutions
* Candidate must have working knowledge of and real-world experience troubleshooting TCP/IP IPv4 environments
* Candidate must have at least a DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility Preferred Additional Skills:* Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience across several of the following areas:
scripting (bash, perl, python, PHP), datacenter & equipment management (inventory, organization, copper & fiber cabling), large-scale system configuration management, network services (DNS, DHCP, SNMP), network infrastructure (IPv6, layer 2 switching, cabling), source code management (subversion, git), server virtualization (VMware vSphere), documentation management (DokuWiki, MediaWiki), client operating systems (Apple Mac OS X, Windows 7/8), web services (Apache), security hardening guides & tools (DISA STIGs, SCAP, ACAS, HBSS)* Strong preference will be given to candidates that meet DoD 8570 requirements for an IAT II level position, including an active CompTIA Security+ certification or equivalent Security Clearance:
