Harris Corporation is currently seeking a Senior Network Engineer with networking and programming skills to join our research team at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC (located near the Wilson Bridge and off of 295). This is a highly dynamic research environment where you will be working with cutting edge theories and technology. If you have the skills, a high desire to learn, like to work in a University type environment and are open to new ideas, concepts and challenging problem resolution then this is a perfect fit for you! The position will be directly responsible for design, development, installation and maintenance, daily operation, tuning and troubleshooting various data, voice, and video systems. This will include at least the following activities:
Responsibilities include:* Ethernet switches
* Configuration and maintenance of IP routers (IPv4 and IPv6) to include built from scratch and commercial of the shelf
* Optical transport equipment
* Firewalls
* Configuration, and when necessary, troubleshooting routing protocols including BGP and OSPF
* Provisioning WAN circuits* Debugging network configuration and performance issues
* Compilation and packaging open source software* Monitoring network availability and performance
* Coordinating access to remote sites for installation and maintenance Must be able to work independently and as part of team. Analytical and problem-solving skills to provide technical solutions to a wide range of problems are essential. Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills and to interface effectively with highly technical end users, co-workers, vendors, and network service providers. Candidate should be self-motivated and have a strong desire to learn, experiment, and think outside of the box. Qualifications:* Bachelor's degree in Science, Math, Engineering and eight (8+) years
* Must have experience with network management software and SNMPv3
* Successful candidate must have experience automating tasks with shell scripts and will have programming experience with C or C++
* The qualified candidate will be familiar with layer 2 forwarding (Spanning Tree), DHCP, BGP, OSPF and RIP. Experience configuring routers produced by Cisco, Brocade/Foundry, Juniper or Laurel/ECI
* Active Secret security clearance Preferred Additional Skills:* Familiarity with any of:
SONET, OTN (G.709), TL1, PPP, IP multicast routing, MPLS, GRE, IPSec, SIP or IS-IS
* Familiarity with network test equipment such as an Optical Spectrum Analyzer or an Optical Time-- Domain Reflectometer
* Proficiency with software development in C/C++ Security Clearance:
