Association of Corporate Counsel
JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Summary: Develop and manage strategic fee-based services to support effective management the legal function, leading cross-functional teams drawing from other ACC departments to develop and execute programs leveraging ACC’s resources and programming. Develop/implement strategic plans for each project, ensuring stakeholder buy-in and program value to ACC brand, membership and appropriate ROI. Effectively execute programs, working with other ACC functions and segment leaders to support long-term program success. In particular, lead the transformation of the ACC Value Challenge into a suite of training and other services to foster more effective management of the law department on a financially sustainable basis.
Essential Responsibilities: Lead development of a menu of workshops for legal departments and their outside counsel that leverage the Legal Service Management curriculum & methodology. Ensure that pricing and other elements of the marketing strategy support ACC’s strategic objectives, while also ensuring that the LMS programs are financially self-sustaining.
Spearhead marketing to legal department leaders, and conduct business development from end-to-end – generating leads, proposing programs/pricing and executing contracts.
Orchestrate program/service delivery, whether in-person or virtually, recruiting faculty, overseeing curriculum development, managing logistics, measuring success and driving continuous improvement.
Undertake a disciplined product/service development process to expand the suite of law department services. Conduct market research to understand department needs, develop prototypes and run pilots, assess effectiveness and iteratively implement programs.
Forge partnerships to help deliver law department services, identifying appropriate candidates and collaborating to develop and execute programs, ensuring strong ACC brand value benefits.
Steward the transformation of the ACC Value Challenge and the Value Champions, ensuring that ACC’s thought leadership in law department management is enhanced and a continuing stream of intelligence about and participants who can demonstrate and help teach cutting edge management practices.
Support ACC spokespersons and staff as a subject matter expert on law department management and value practices. Through member interfaces, surveys/studies, media and other available information, keep abreast of trends in law department management and provide competitive intelligence, training, talking points, etc.
Develop and/or manage development of online resources and tools on legal / operations management topics to drive engagement with the ACC and provide demonstrable value to members.
Support the AVP of Legal Management Services in driving collaboration, integration and efficiency, providing input and helping coordinate workflow and collaboration for efficient and effective teamwork.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise the work of the Legal Management Services staff. Supervise the work of ACC shared resources and consultants/vendors with whom the position works to develop initiatives and resources.
Manage the budget and internal administrative functions that are part of leading a staff area at ACC.
Education: BA/BS required; MBA preferred.
Work Experience: Project development/management; product/service development management; marketing or business development & communications. Experience in legal services industry required.
Skills: Fluency in English and a second language required, with a preference for French, German, Cantonese or Mandarin. Ability to understand complex subject matter on a broad range of law department management topics, and shape strategies and tactics drawing from available information. Solid financial management skills. Strong critical thinking and analytic capability, especially in regard to market / trend analysis and returns on investment (ROIs). Superior oral and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills. Including the ability to quickly and effectively communicate program benefits to a variety of constituents. Strong inter-personal skills; must be able to communicate effectively with constituents, colleagues and ACC executives. Must be able to collaborate effectively with external partners. Ability to both “translate” and connect issues and constituencies (which are often disparate) and develop solutions that advance the ACC agenda. Team leadership, supervisory and project management skills. Strong computer and online skills.
Capabilities: Strong ability to engage multifunctional resources, pulling ad hoc teams together to develop/launch programs and sustain existing programs.
Strong executive engagement capability; exhibit knowledge and gravitas to be respected by law department leaders.
