The EMR Instructional Designer and Training Analyst will actively contribute to an innovative team dedicated to establishing a new foundation for advancing clinical delivery and quality outcomes.
This position is key to ensuring clinical users' readiness and satisfaction with the EMR system. Fulfills multiple roles throughout the development, implementation, management, and on-going support of UC San Diego Health System's comprehensive clinical information systems. Gains an in-depth knowledge of the Epic EMR software, as well as UC San Diego Health System's operations and workflow, and works closely with the project team's application analysts to translate business needs into EMR functionality.
Conducts careful and through analysis of current and anticipated training needs of the health system employees in terms of EMR use. Utilizes available resources and creates new ones to develop a robust and high quality EMR training curriculum for clinical applications. Creates and maintains training materials related to specific updates. Works with application teams to ensure that training curriculum is always updated and current to reflect changes to the dynamic EMR.
Delivers EMR training content via e-learning, classroom presentations and other modes of learning. Partners with our customers to ensure that training curriculum is always updated and current to reflect the customers' need. Incumbent will assist in maintaining current test and training environments and will participate in training end-users.
Preferred Qualifications: Instructional design or training experience for Epic revenue cycle applications. Certification in a rev cycle Epic application (Cadence, Prelude, Professional Billing) highly preferred. Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Clinical Applications Professional: Involves the design, building, testing, and implementation of clinical application systems. Provides support to clinical users through knowledge of clinical processes, documentation needs, workflows, and clinical practice standards, when adapting software to meet their needs. Works with clinicians to create or adapt written protocols. Prepares detailed specs encompassing clinical processes, information flow, risk and impact analysis. May provide customer service, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Level 2: Professional who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.
Clinical Applications Professional 2: Applies acquired skills and professional clinical applications concepts for small to medium sized projects of moderate scope. Operates independently within defined scope of responsibilities.
Designs, implements, debugs and evaluates moderately complex clinical software, hardware and/or operating systems. Contributes to moderately complex projects to analyze clinical workflows and create and define integrated clinical technology solutions. Organizes elements to support workflows and documentation requirements. Makes suggestions for improvements in workflows. Collaborates with clinical system users to implement new releases and system upgrades.
Assists in development of business strategies and improvements in operational processes. Establishes scope and requirements for initiatives. Participates in the development of new projects of moderate scope and complexity. Performs systems analysis, planning and preparation, coding, testing, implementation and client/vendor coordination. Participates in user training in clinical software, hardware and/or operating systems of limited complexity.
Develops training tools and user aids. Troubleshoots and documents moderately-complex issues with clinical software, hardware and/or operating systems. Performs root cause analysis, informs management and takes action. Coordinates service and support between clinical engineering, IT, networks, and outside vendors. Compiles complete and concise documentation of requests. Confirms scope and requirements for initiatives. Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's Degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area; and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.
Demonstrated ability to provide expert consultative guidance and direction on change initiatives affecting clinical care processes.
Proven ability in workflow and data analysis and design techniques, including needs assessment, specification development, quantitative methods, planning and gap analysis.
Ability to effectively utilize system tools to meet functionality needs of users.
Ability to plan and organize day-to-day activities along with short and long-term projects; in-depth knowledge of organizational and project planning processes and ability to produce and maintain high quality planning documents.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience as a major participant in a clinical system implementation.
Certification in a rev cycle Epic application (Cadence, Prelude, Professional Billing).
Instructional design or training experience for Epic revenue cycle applications.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Must pass a background check.
Must pass physical and TB test.
