The Moores Cancer Center is creating a Same Day Clinic to provide assessment and care to patients, preventing unneeded emergency room visits and admissions. The PA will provide assessment for patients referred to the same day service clinic by an oncology triage nurse and will coordinate treatment with the infusion center and with the primary treatment team as needed. The PA will plan, implement and evaluate health care treatments. Under the supervision of an attending oncologist, assess laboratory findings including blood tests, MRI, CT Scan and X-rays.

Incumbent will individualize patient care in order to manage illness, promote well-being, foster rehabilitative and disease preventive lifestyle choices and, communicate with patients, their significant others, and their primary health care providers. Responsibilities include performing physical examinations, assess current drug therapies and potential interactions, liaising with health care providers, and interpret laboratory results. Communicate clinical findings to physicians, research scientists and lay persons. Provide telephone triage and symptom management.



Graduate of an accredited PA training program.

Physician Assistant (PA) license issued by the state of California.

BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

Minimum three (3) years of full-time related PA experience.

Oncology experience required.

Must have successfully completed or commit to complete within 6 months of hire the Controlled Substance Education Course by the California Academy of Physician Assistants.

Working knowledge of common Neurological disorders and/or Neuro-oncology.

Proven ability to perform, teach and supervise others in lumbar puncture and venipuncture procedures, and conduct neuromedical assessments/physical exams and interpretation of findings.

Must be able to act as primary resource for post lumbar puncture complications and abnormal results.

Proven ability to take detailed medical history, perform physical examinations and evaluate pertinent health deficits.

Demonstrated experience interpreting diagnostic tests and providing appropriate follow up treatment.

Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to motivate team members.

Exhibits willingness to develop and expand role responsibilities as patient and system needs change.

Ability to understand the medical as well as psych-social needs of a patient population with cancer.


* ED and/or Urgent Care experience.



Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Must be able to obtain UCSD medical staff privileges.
