UC San Diego Health is a Magnet designated organization, which is a prestigious recognition that applies to only 6% of all U.S. hospitals. Magnet is the gold standard for nursing excellence and is based on strengths in five key areas which include transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements and empirical quality results. UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011.
As the only academic medical center in San Diego, UC San Diego Health sets the standard for quality care. We have a Level I Trauma designation, a Regional Burn Center, and the Joint Commission certified Stroke Center. Several exciting innovations have recently been incorporated into the care of patients in the ED. One is the Stroke Center certification earned by the Neurology Department in collaboration with the ED. Another is the recently incorporated "STEMI" ST elevation MI protocol that allows medics in the field to initiate a cardiology consultation prior to the patient arriving in the ED and UC San Diego Health hospitals. This leads to rapid activation of the Cardiac Catheterization Team.
Under general supervision, the Emergency Per Diem nurse identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluated results for a wide variety of patient populations. Directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned. Promotes compliance and support of policies. Achieves trust in professional collegial relationships.
