JOB DESCRIPTIONAPPLY SUMMARY
The General Manager (GM) of Brand Cool has complete responsibility for all agency controls and operations of the Brand Cool division of Butler/Till and its client accounts. S/he is responsible the quality of our products and services, the P&L of Brand Cool, developing and nurturing relationships with top level client contacts and overseeing the fast growing team of 20+ agency professionals. S/he will also be responsible for the marketing and business development of the division, which is positioned as a separate entity externally, with its own positioning, look/feel, client roster, growth strategy, etc.
He/she is will represent Brand Cool as part of Butler/Till’s senior leadership team, responsible for setting the long-term strategic vision and ensuring adoption across the agency.

In 2015 Butler/Till made their first acquisition with Rochester-based marketing firm, Brand Cool. In just 18 months, Butler/Till doubled the size of Brand Cool revenue, retained all major clients, and had 0% employee turnover – a success by all measures. Now that the foundation has been laid, we are poised for explosive growth and with the right leadership we are certain to realize that potential.
This is a new position but aligns to the vision of having several independent (yet collaborative) divisions under the Butler/Till umbrella.
A successful GM will be able to evolve the positioning and growth strategy for Brand Cool to be both relevant externally but also maintain some of the unique attributes, of which our employees are very passionate. S/he must be able to balance the day to day operations of the business while also staying focused on longer term goals including growth, staff development and succession, service evolution/innovation, etc. A critical accomplishment in year 1 will be the successful launch of our San Francisco-based office which will soon be opened to service our largest Brand Cool client as well as present other opportunities for West Coast expansion.
As an experienced marketer and thought leader, s/he will represent Brand Cool on a national stage, regularly attending and speaking at industry events (our own industry as well as our clients’).
The GM will effectively operate with a minimum level of supervision overseeing 25% of Butler/Till’s total revenue (and growing).
As a senior member of the larger agency, Butler/Till, the GM will be also integral to developing the strategic direction of the agency, training/mentoring junior staff, and developing processes and services models that ensure Butler/Till and Brand Cool will continue our trajectory of success.
The GM will have digression over the organizational structure of Brand Cool. Based on the current organization, s/he would oversee the account management group (VP of Client Services/Group Account Director and Account Director) and the creative team (Executive Creative Director). There is a dotted line from the Director of Finance (who formally reports to the CFO) and Director of Strategy (who reports to the Chief Strategy Officer). Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Manage the day to day operations of the office(s), consistent with the agency’s financial and administrative policies and public law.
Establish budgets, business strategies, staffing needs and forecasts to assure the growth and profitability of Brand Cool.
