JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will have primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining the RMG Patient Safety Program but will provide cross-coverage for patient safety activities across the West Region.
The Patient Safety Leader reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Hospital, adheres to the organization s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Works with interdisciplinary clinical groups to define, measure and analyze quality and patient safety issues and practice concerns on behalf of quality committees. Defines, collects, analyzes and presents data cogently to identify trends. Masters relevant evidence and literature in relevant clinical area, discipline, and improvement science. Supports and may lead improvement activities utilizing DMAIC, Lean, and other performance improvement tools as appropriate. Applies knowledge of clinical practice, current research, best practices, and interdisciplinary collaboration to advance problem analysis and resolution and creative process redesign. Participates in patient safety improvement initiatives, receives and monitors control plans and data trends under the purview of clinical interdisciplinary quality committees. Reports to Patient Safety Manager.

* Bachelor s degree in pharmacy, nursing or other related clinical field with at least 3 years recent clinical experience in the acute care setting (Master s and / or PharmD strongly preferred) OR at least 3 years demonstrated effective performance in clinical patient safety measurement and improvement.

* Recent experience in quality / patient safety activities. Working knowledge of performance improvement framework (i.e., DMAIC), quality and patient safety metrics and process improvement, and application of analytic tools.

* Computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

* This position requires effective interpersonal communication skills including teamwork, leadership and team facilitation, strong writing and presentation skills, good organizational skills, and excellent critical thinking skills. Exceptionally strong interdisciplinary collaboration and effective leadership skills are needed.

* Master s degree and/or other evidence of advanced commitment to profession.

* Understanding of basic statistics, working knowledge of contemporary standards and data sets related to healthcare quality and patient safety initiatives.

* DMAIC green belt prepared

* Evidence of publishable work (research, quality reports, clinical summaries).
