JOB SUMMARYResponsible for engineering activities that maintain and enhance the company's customer premises equipment (CPE) activation, provisioning, and operations platforms. Works with technical operations staff on system design and configuration. Works with design teams and advises team leaders.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots CPE activation, provisioning, and operations systems in assigned areas.Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.Tests and reviews system designs.Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met.Mentors and guides the work of technical staff.Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements.Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.Knows, understands and follows company policy.Performs other duties as requested by manager.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSSkills/Abilities and KnowledgeAbility to maintain and administer UNIX-based platforms, including performance tuning, package installation, patch management, network and server management tasksExpert knowledge of troubleshooting tools (i.e tcpdump, netstat, iostat, traceroute, snoop)Expert experience with System monitoring applications (Nagios, Solarwinds, HP OpenView, etc).Expert understanding of LAN/WAN topology, network protocols (TCP/IP, FTP, NFS), switches and firewallsExperience activating/maintaining CPE per the DOCSIS, PacketCable, and SNMP specificationsExperience with configuration of CPE using the TR-069 and related specificationsExpert comprehension of the DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and TFTP protocolsAbility to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional mannerAdvanced knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topologyAdvanced knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI ModelAdvanced knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.Advanced knowledge of network devices and basic network appliancesAdvanced knowledge of network designing software, such as VisioAbility to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quicklyAbility to use personal computer and software applicationsKey Platforms / Systems / DisciplinesCisco Broadband Access Center (BAC) / Cisco Prime Cable Provisioning (PCP)Cisco Prime Network Registrar (PNR)Cisco Prime Home (CPH) / ARRIS EdgeBT Diamond ImageControlOracle Hardware (V-series, T-series) / Solaris 10, Solaris 11HP Hardware (DL380, DL580) / RHEL 6MySQL, Perl, PHP, BASH, LAMP/SAMPEducationMasters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experienceRelated Work Experience Number Of YearsEngineering work experience 5-10Project management work experience 5-10PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSSkills /Abilities and KnowledgeKnowledge of company products and servicesEducationRHEL Certified Systems Administrator - RHCSAIndustry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, RHEL, MySQL, Solaris, etc.)WORKING CONDITIONSOffice environmentEOE Race/Sex/Vet/DisabilityCharter is an equal opportunity employer that complies with the laws and regulations set forth in the following EEO Is the Law poster: is committed to diversity, and values the ways in which we are different.
