The Product Design Manager is a veteran all-around product owner who is responsible for leading the design and creation of a variety of mobile application projects. The Product Design Manager should be considered a master in their related field, is often the top tier designer/implementor and fulfills the role of creative lead in the development. This position should actively help upper management in production development and use their work experience to help avoid production problems. This position should also help drive design initiatives and core values. The Product Design Manager should be aware of the big picture of design and how it relates to the production as a whole and how they can help. This position operates with little oversight from upper management. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide leadership to designers and other content developers, oversee planning and design documentation
Contribute game design approaches to pitch proposals to increase interest, engagement, and retention
Ensure a cohesive design between requirements, engineering, user experience, and other application goals
Work with content developers to ensure proper implementation according to system specifications
Participate in relevant aspects of application design with program management.
Manage development within budget and achieve performance requirements
Participate in the review of work products for correctness, adherence to customer requirements and to user standards, and for progress in accordance with schedules
Identify and resolve technical issues during development
Respond to and resolve technical issues during development and participate in content integration efforts
Work within deadline and budgetary constraints
Assist Director(s) in the management of project/product direction
Responsible for maintaining a cohesive look and feel across project s levels
Offer feedback to management on ways to improve workflows and processes and help enforce these with the team
Act as main point of contact to communicate project progress between teams, management and customer.
Be comfortable with on-the-spot ideation with a customer, and creating detailed notes that can be reported back to the team. Attention to detail is critical in this role.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Four year degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Digital Media, Game Art & Design, or Game Programming or similar field and ten years experience in software development.
Must have experience as a team member on three or more full software development life cycles, from concept to ship, preferentially in a lead role on at least one cycle.
Must have the ability to present and have through understanding of complex mockups and layouts to present design vision.
Must have expert level presentation and communication skills including being able to present to all levels of employee, including upper management.
Ability to perform technical writing in order to describe software requirements and design specifications, including diagrams is required.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
Good interpersonal and team-oriented skills are required.
Must have ability to collaborate with artists and engineers on design issues.
Must be flexible and able to adapt to quickly changing circumstances and work priorities in a timely manner.
Must have demonstrable ability to understand abstract concepts in order to apply solutions to real customer needs and requirements.
Familiarity with Agile or other iterative software development methods and work processes is required.
Frequent travel should be expected.
