JOB DUTIES:

The Staff Research Associate provides technical support in an immunology laboratory, which focuses on disorders of the immune system. Under general supervision by the P.I. and the senior laboratory staff, the primary functions of the research associate will be to order supplies, autoclave and wash lab supplies, support the mouse colony, maintain lab equipment, and perform experiments using flow cytometry, cell culture, and manipulation of DNA. Work is assigned by the Principal Investigator and senior staff, but the Research Associate is encouraged to think and work creatively with some supervision. Results of experiments will be reviewed and discussed on a daily basis and during weekly laboratory meetings.



JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Knowledge of sterile laboratory technique and knowledge of biological and chemical safety guidelines. Standard DNA cloning and FACS techniques. Comfortable working under supervision but also independently. Very good skills in record keeping and communication. Rigorous attention to keeping up-to-date lab notebook. Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point). Ability to maintain lab equipment (e.g., incubators, water bath, centrifuge, spectrophotometer). Comfortable working with potentially hazardous chemicals (with training). Bachelors Degree in Science. Preferred: Comfortable working with mice. Skills in data analysis and presentation.
