About the Infectious Diseases Area Antibacterial Lead Discovery Group:
The Infectious Diseases Area (IDA) seeks to discover and develop treatments to address unmet medical needs in the management and cure of bacterial and viral infections. The Antibacterial Lead Discovery group in Emeryville is part of the multidisciplinary effort aimed at the discovery of small molecule drugs for the treatment of patients with bacterial diseases. We develop and implement phenotypic and target-based assays aimed at discovering novel agents for antibacterial therapy.

About the position:
We are seeking a motivated individual with a strong scientific background and relevant expertise in the screening of small molecules and mechanistic characterization of novel chemical entities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated competency in developing innovative cell-based and target-based assay technologies as part of lead discovery and lead optimization processes. The candidate will be responsible for the robust execution of assays and interpretation of the resulting data to enable programs to reach decision points. The selected candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Independently perform and interpret cell-based and biochemical screening assays to support drug discovery efforts
Independently design, troubleshoot and implement new mechanism of action assays
Ensure integrity, quality, and delivery of data in a timely manner
Contribute to hypothesis generation, experimental design and interpretation of data.
Written and electronic documentation of methods and results
Written and oral communication of results to key stakeholders
