Partners Finance manages all finance functions, excluding Treasury, and provides business experience and financial expertise to strategy formulation and decision-making. Today there are over 1,000 Finance employees at 21 locations providing transactional and analytic services to their entities and to the system.
SENIOR FINANCIAL ANALYST
This position supports the Budget Manager of the Brigham and Womens Hospital. The Senior Financial Analyst will:
Provide high level and in-depth budget and monthly variance analysis for Clinical and Non-Clinical areas.
Present monthly budget updates to assigned Hospital Vice Presidents.
Work with Budget Manager in the development, maintenance and enhancement of the departmental month, quarterly and annual reporting packages for various levels of Hospital leadership and BWH Finance Committee.
Work closely with various levels of hospital management and local finance staff on issues surrounding budget development, reporting and analytical special projects.
Assist in the coordination and development of the annual operating budget process.
Analyze proposed operating budget requests, coordinate questions for discussion and participate in negotiation of budget issues with management, make recommendations to management regarding proposed spending.
Analyze proposed operating budget requests and ensure compliance with established hospital operating targets.
Work with product-line analysts, Accounting, other Management and Budget staff, to understand and evaluate financial performance and major financial issues facing the organization.
Develop, analyze and prepare variety of regular and ad hoc operational reporting analyses and projects for issues related to management inquiries and initiatives. Compile financial schedules and participate in special projects as requested.
Evaluate the relationships between hospital volume activity and the impact on department operations and monthly operating expenses.
For areas of responsibility, prepare monthly variance analysis, cost per unit analysis, and periodically assist in the review of reports on budget related issues and special projects.
Work on various monthly, quarterly and annual budget presentations.
Leverage access to multiple systems such as Hyperion, EPIC, Balanced Scorecard, EPSI, Position Control, PeopleSoft Financials and Human Resources Management System to enhance Hospital financial analytics.
Design and maintain accurate records and databases.
Work with operational managers on quarterly forecasts as part of annual budget process and month end closing account analysis.
Identify opportunities for system development with strategies for new system implementation such as expense reallocations, position control, and ad hoc reporting.
Assist in other management and budget assignments as assigned.
Minimum of a Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, economics or related field. Masters degree a plus.
Use of Hyperion Financial Planning, Hyperion Financial Reporting, Essbase and Smartview reporting or creation of Excel macros a plus.
Three to five years experience in healthcare or hospital finance preferred.
Excellent analytical and customer problem resolution skills.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Exceptional research and organizational skills.
Must be extremely well organized to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under sometimes tight deadlines
Take-charge ability and excellent judgment in determining and leveraging resources.
Exceptional judgment and discretion in interacting with management on sensitive fiscal and confidential issues.
Strong financial and Revenue analysis skills.
Strong Excel, PowerPoint and Access skills including the ability to write macros.
Ability to work effectively in teams.
Ability to work independently with operating managers on issues such as cost per unit analysis, periodic product-line analysis, forecasting and variance analysis.
