Partners Specialty Pharmacy is a not-for-profit wholly owned subsidiary of Partners HealthCare targeted to open in late summer 2017. The Partners Specialty Pharmacy will serve Partners Healthcare patients from a centrally managed location in the Boston area with support from local entity clinics and pharmacy departments.

The Partners Specialty Pharmacy will deliver high quality services with an emphasis on patient education, service excellence and comprehensive care management. Partners Specialty Pharmacy will serve as an integral link between patient and provider, efficiently providing first-rate service to optimize patient outcomes and achieve organizational financial goals. Therapeutic areas of focus will include Hematology, Oncology, inflammatory conditions, Hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS and Multiple Sclerosis

Clinical Liaison will work directly with specialty clinic patients in hospital based specialty clinics to manage their oral specialty medication needs. Understand the complex needs of patients and coordinate with pharmacy and medical/nursing staff to meet those needs and provide extraordinary service. Assist with marketing and patient education efforts to promote and grow the business and ensure customer satisfaction. Understand the complexities of billing and assist with claims processing to ensure medication claims are submitted correctly and paid by third party payers. Assist Patient Financial Advocate with coordination of drug replacement medications.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with physicians, nurses and pharmacists to ensure that each Oncology Pharmacy patient receives the medications he/she needs at the appropriate time:
Review medication regime with patient to determine which medications need to be dispensed
Process medication orders confirming that they are billed to all third parties correctly
Monitor patient concerns, charts and profiles in an effort to meet their medication therapy needs
Assist in marketing efforts for the Oncology Pharmacy to enhance the business and increase revenue:
Assist in the development and ongoing promotion and marketing for the oncology program
Answer patient questions about the service, insurance issues, etc
Ensure all questions are answered timely and accurately
Maintain patient education materials related to oral chemotherapy agents
Ensure employee back-up coverage is trained and knowledgeable
Commit to Building Relationships:
Quickly forge and sustain (or develop and maintain) strong relationships with physicians, prescribers, nurses and patients to build the service
Provide caring service, adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served
Collaborate and act as liaison with patient, family, and interdisciplinary team and discharge pharmacy to develop discharge prescription plan
Represent both the discharge pharmacy and the oncology pharmacy to the oncology clinic and infusion center
Improve processes to facilitate communication and service between patient, and clinic, infusion center and discharge pharmacy teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of all take-home medications
Act as the insurance specialist:
Understand Medicare/Medicaid regulations and billing guidelines as they pertain to cancer patient pharmacy benefits
Understand billing primary, secondary and tertiary insurance claims
Resolve any billing issues and obtain Prior Authorizations for medications when needed
Obtain benefit information and verify patient insurance eligibility and level of coverage
Work with PFA staff on ongoing coverage levels/issues
Assist Pharmacy Manager with tasks as assigned:
Collect data and run statistics.
Monitor productivity.

Qualifications

High School diploma/GED required, Degree in business/healthcare preferred.
Two years pharmacy technician experience required.
Certified Pharmacy Technician required, registered with Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy or pending registration
Specialty Pharmacy experience preferred. Experience in cancer medications and chemotherapy protocols preferred.
Experience with Epic and/or Enterprise Rx preferred.
