VCU Health System-Childrens Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Brook Road Campus - Fredericksburg Therapy Center is seeking a full time Speech Pathologist. The Speech Pathologist is a novice to an advanced beginner level of practice, particularly as it relates to a hospital based setting. They are able to perform assessments and therapeutic interventions with the routine patient population. They support team endeavors by performing department and/or team tasks, problem solving and intervention skills. The Speech Pathologist may orient other allied health professionals to their field upon the successful completion of their CFY year with the approval of the Department Manager. They may also provide student experiences per approval of the Coordinator of Student Supervision.
Performs the following for patients with mild to moderately complex communications and/or swallowing disorders: schedule frequency and intensity of therapy; select assessment instruments and administer assessment; interpret results; complete documentation; plan and carry out treatment strategies; develop long- and short-term goals; perform patient/family/staff education; report at patient/family/team conferences; and terminate therapy when appropriate.
Supervisor or SLP II or higher provides advice/guidance/training regarding clinical skills, professional practice, ethical behaviors, billing, caseload management, educational opportunities, documentation and patient care for patient issues or when requested by staff.
SLPs with their CCC may provide student supervision if deemed competent to do so by Department Manager or Coordinator of Student Interns.
Masters Degree from an ASHA accredited program in Speech and Language PathologyLicense (or licensure eligible) from the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Speech and Language PathologistCertificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in SLP from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship Year candidateFor CFY incumbents, completion of CFY and awarded a CCC, at conclusion of 1st year of employmentCPR certificationNew graduate/CFY to SLP with less than two (2) years of experiencePrevious clinical experience with evaluation/ treatment of neurogenic, motor speech, linguistic/cognitive communication disorders and swallowing disordersPrevious experience performing swallow studies including MBS and bedside assessmentsPrevious experience planning and executing treatmentCompletes required learning exchange coursesStrong Clinical Fellowship Year candidates will be considered.
Previous experience with trach management as related to swallowing and communication disordersPrevious experience managing complex swallowing and/or communication, linguistic/cognitive disordersPrevious work experience in a critical care settingPrevious experience with computer-based documentation systemsClinical rotations during graduate training in medical settingSelected applicants will be hired into appropriate levels for this position based on their experience and qualifications Full time 1: Days
