JOB DESCRIPTIONJob Description:
Under direction from the supervisor and with input from the Medical Director, the senior technologist, following prescribed protocols and procedures, will coordinate all technical and clerical work related to the performance of diagnostic ultrasound procedures. Research, develop and formulate new techniques and protocols in the field of ultrasound under the direction of the Medical Director. Produce diagnostic images of the human anatomy utilizing both stationary, and portable ultrasound equipment. Record patient images via appropriate archival media. Provide permanent data of procedures as required or requested by the medical director. Maintain departmental standards related to Quality Assurance controls. Explain to fellows, residents, and new employee the methods of scanning and equipment operations when directed. Participate in departmental In-Service training programs. Adhere to on-call, holiday, and weekend schedules as prepared by the manager. Exercise strict patient confidentiality. Demonstrate a professional attitude by being courteous towards patients, co-workers, and physicians. Confirm a written request for exam is present CC or physician referral form. Review clinical information regarding patient for appropriateness of requested exam. Coordinate exams with other services as needed. Communicate with nursing units' pertinent patient information. Follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Maintain accurate up-to-date records of procedures performed. Daily billing followed by reconciliation. Initiate proper requests for required maintenance or repair of equipment. Inspect all devices for damage and ensure they are operating within accepted parameters. Maintain accurate record of all supplies used and initiate orders to maintain supply par levels. Comply with personnel standards in employee and technologist handbooks.
Graduate of CAAHAP Sonography program is required. ARDMS Required and must have a valid CPR. Ability to use a Philip US machine. Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology and pathology and ability to apply theory to practice in the clinical evaluation of target anatomy. Ability to provide services for all age groups from neonates to geriatric persons. Skill and manual dexterity to manipulate transducer, buttons and knobs on the ultrasound equipment to obtain optimal studies. Knowledge and ability to use PC and word processing software to generate written reports. Ability to move 500lb+ ultrasound machine around the medical center. Current BLS. .Able to take call and report to duty within 60 minutes of request.
