OPERATING ROOM Schedule
Day shift Hours
M-F 7am-3:30pm; On Call every 4th week/weekend rotation Job Details

Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing a safe environment for all age groups of surgical patients; assists the perioperative nurse with patient care; prepares and maintains supplies in the operating room (OR) while maintaining a professional and efficient manner; assures that procedure preparations are based on individual patient and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Performs these services under the direction of the RN or surgeon.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

*Participates in meetings, committees and lean projects as assigned.
*Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
*Performs service excellence initiatives such as: AIDET, Key Words, Managing up, 10/5 Rule and Service Recovery when applicable.
*Prepares, organizes, and anticipates needed instruments, supplies, and equipment for safe patient care and operative procedure.
*Defines and practices aseptic technique and infection control principles as they apply to the OR.
*Manages supplies, instruments and equipment appropriately according to CAMC procedure.
* Assists in coordination of care pre-operatively for patients, helping to ensure patients have had a pre-op H&P as needed and pre-op education/teaching has been done.
* Schedules patients to best utilize resources to accommodate maximum patient flow for both surgery patients and outpatients.
*Works cooperatively as part of team to ensure adequate staffing for patient care, communicating in advance any times that are going to require extra assistance above what is scheduled.
*Assists the nurse in perioperative care of the patient including transporting and positioning; counts, preps surgical instruments and supplies.
*Participates in continuous quality improvement measures to achieve positive patient outcomes; provides patient care in accordance with patients' rights; participates and practices safety through active prevention and precautions; assures personal/visitor safety through measures of prevention and universal precautions.
*Assists nurse with specialty clinic visits and procedures.
*Ensures weekly biological testing is done on sterilizers.
Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required. Surgical Technologist certification preferred. Prior Surgical Technology experience preferred.
