POSITION SUMMARY - The ultrasonographer provides health care services using sonic energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs ultrasonic imaging and related procedures in one or more of the following areas: OB/Gyn, abdomen, neurosonolgy, echocardiography and vascular. Demonstrates anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Participates in Cardiovascular Continuous Quality Improvement.


LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Must be registered or registry-eligible in ultrasound imaging with either the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT); or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with the credentials R.T.(S); or Registered with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) with the credentials of Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS); and Current CPR, Healthcare provider. If registry-eligible, the employee must be registered in either general sonography (RDMS), or echocardiography (RDCS or RCS), or Vascular Sonography (RVT, RCIS, or RVS) within 12-months of employment. Within the first year of employment, the sonographer must be registered in at least two of the following registries: general ultrasound, echocardiography or vascular ultrasound.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an Ultrasound program which is fully accredited by the Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA).

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years experience in a hospital setting is preferred.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Good communication skills, computer skills are helpful. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care.
