Factory Jobs & Employment Information

In spite of all the offshore outsourcing, factory job openings in the United States continue to go up in full swing. In the year 2010, factory worker jobs included over 1.6 million assemblers and fabricators. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this number is expected to go up by 88,000 by the end of this decade.

On the other hand, industrial production managers held over 150,000 jobs with a projected growth of 9% by 2020. Even though millions of factory workers lost their job in the 2008 economic recession, the manufacturing sector has now begun creating newer opportunities.

Today, people pursuing factory floor jobs are expected to come with basic high school education and vocational training that allows them to meet manufacturing challenges effectively. Sufficient mathematical skills and the ability to solve problems are key skills that employers seek.

Besides engineers, common factory jobs include that of technicians, skilled workers such as carpenters, plumbers and electricians, machine operators, and factory floor managers.

The average income of an electrical and electronic equipment assembler in a factory was $29,030 in the year 2011. The mid 50% earned between $23,000 and $37,000 per year.
