POSITION DESCRIPTION:Responsible to the Manager of the Library Consolidation Project ECP 20080074 of the IT/IS Special Projects Office. This position is responsible for the engineering of the IT/IS portion of the Library Consolidation LAN/WAN infrastructure at various client sites. Responsibilities include: Provide network engineering design and implementation to meet ECP requirements. Participate in Technical Exchange Meetings with the customer, related IT/IS efforts and external contractors as required.Duties and qualifications, identifying both essential and marginal duties:Analyze and define requirements. Assist other team members in the readiness process. Recognize and assess risks. Interact across IT/IS directorates, with other contractors and vendors, and with government representatives. Ability to perform tasks in a timely and accurate manner.Ability to function well in a rapidly changing environment with little or no direct supervision.Proficiency in oral and written communications. Provided onsite support as a Systems Engineer resolving network and service related problems.Recommended to have knowledge of major telecommunications industry standards and protocols such as TCP/IP, Simple Management Network Protocol (SNMP), and hands-on Cisco and Marconi switches and router configuration and troubleshooting. Experience with the development environment, testing, assessment, performance evaluation, operation, and design of Enterprise networks. Knowledge and/or experience with the test equipment necessary to perform installation and monitoring functions, including sniffers. A qualified candidate should have at least 5+ years of hands-on Cisco and Ericsson multilayer switch and router configuration and troubleshooting. The applicant should have a working knowledge of client's network infrastructure.Candidate must be willing and able to travel occasionally. Requirements: Education, Skill, and Experience Requirements:Experience: 5-8 years in network engineering, operations and maintenance Degree: Bachelors of ScienceMajor(s): Engineering, Computer Science, or Information TechnologyMay substitute 7+ years experience for BS + 3-6 yearsExperience: 3-6 years in network engineering, operations and maintenance Degree: Bachelors of ScienceMajor(s): Engineering, Computer Science, or Information TechnologyMay substitute 7+ years experience for BS + 3-6 yearsThe engineer should be well-versed in both Internet Protocol (IP) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)- based Wide Area Network (WAN) and LAN architectures, particularly those in support of the NGA or other similar organizations. The ability to understand the function and to engineer each to optimize performance using proven traffic engineering protocols/features (e.g., Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS)) and to understand Quality of Service (QoS) models on a WAN. Technical experience must include TCP/IP network design and engineering.Hands-on configuration and troubleshooting experience with routers, bridges, switches, storage area networks, network security, and network management in a UNIX and Windows 2000 environment.Experience in installing, testing, debugging and troubleshooting networks with a variety of network peripherals to include routers, switches, hubs and fiber cable on TCP/IP networks.Knowledge of Cisco, Ericsson, Juniper, and Foundry products desired (in order of importance). Certifications, i.e. CCNA, CCNP, Ericsson, CISSP. Strong oral and written communications skills.Experience that encompasses network management and support, integration services, and security audit and design.Certifications in routers from one or more vendors such as Juniper, Ericcson and Cisco are highly desirable.Knowledge of client's infrastructure is strongly desired.IA Certification Requirement:IA Category: IATLevel: III1.Primary certification: CISSP2.Computing Environment certification: 3.Security-related tool certification: * Upon hire, employee has 6 months to obtain
