Telecommunications Technician ýý" Balch Camp, CA

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification subject to collective bargaining and union dues. The starting wage is $1,653.60 per week.


Position Summary:

This position is located in a hydro facility in Balch Camp, located about two hours northeast of Fresno in a very remote area. Residency onsite is not required but preferred due to its remote location (cost of housing is $65-$70/month, plus utilities).


Responsibilities:

The Telecommunications Technician, without direct supervision, will install, test and maintain telecommunications systems, including intercommunication systems, telephone voice over IP systems, PBX, voice and data-switching systems, major operations computers, supervisory, power and telephone line carriers, microwave, SCADA Control systems , fiber optics, multiplex, radio, remote signal and remote control equipment, load frequency control and telemetering equipment. You also may be required to investigate, correct, or make recommendations to correct user station equipment, personal computers and related equipment problems, as well as radio and television interference complaints.


Qualifications

Required:
Qualified on the Physical Test Battery (PTB), Arithmetic Computation Test (ACT), and Computer and Telecommunications Technician (CTT) exams before applying
Have a Radio Telephone Operator's License (Naber or FCC) or equivalent
Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid California Driverýý s License (Class C) by start date
Experience with installing, testing, and maintaining telecommunications systems, including intercommunication systems, telephone voice over IP systems, PBX, voice and data-switching systems, major operations computers, supervisory, power and telephone line carriers, microwave, SCADA Control systems, fiber optics, multiplex, radio, remote signal and remote control equipment, load frequency control, and telemetering equipment
Advanced computer troubleshooting and repair skills
Basic computer software knowledge
Ability and willingness to work extended hours, nights, holidays, and weekends
Ability to lift, carry, and install various tools, parts and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds on mountainous terrain, dams, canals, stairways, and ladders
Ability to operate heavy tools on long ladders and platforms.
Ability to pack and move from ground, trucks or platforms, barrels, equipment, power/hand tools, and other materials
Ability to maneuver frequently on stairs and ladders, over rock, gravel, and concrete, metal grating, scaffolding, and wood; which may include narrow and uneven surfaces; possibility of mud, snow, ice, oil, and/or water on surfaces
Ability to work in confined spaces and awkward positions
Ability to work on ladders, and other elevated structures with the use of personal protection equipment
Ability to change a vehicle tire and install snow chains
Ability to operate small and large hand and power tools up to 50 pounds.
Ability to operate company vehicle
Ability to work near energized and rotating equipment
Ability to work effectively while exposed to loud noises and vibrations.
Ability to work and drive in all weather conditions
Ability to be respiratory ready and fit and to pass pulmonary function test
Ability to use various safety equipment such as eye, ear, foot, hand protection, as well as fall protection equipment
Ability to work around: poison oak, snakes, spiders, and insects
Ability to work with potential exposure to: chemicals, fuels, solvents, oils, acids, paints, and some substances identified in Proposition 65
Ability and willingness to travel in off road conditions, snow-cats, helicopter, and travel long distances
Ability to work alone frequently
Ability to work over, in, and around water
Ability to ascend to, descend from, and work from heights and high altitud
