SMART’s Tax Practice is comprised of a comprehensive, proactive, results-oriented and multi-disciplinary team of financial professionals. We have a unique opportunity for a State and Local Tax Expert to join our practice as a Manager in our Devon, PA headquarters. Responsibilities * Deliver a full range of State and Local Tax services including tax return review and related research, drafting technical memorandums and client correspondence, and leading voluntary disclosures and audit defense projects. * Coordinate multi-state reviews that analyze income/franchise and other taxes to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, credits and incentives, and corporate structures that can reduce the client's tax burden. * Manage, direct, and monitor client service teams on engagements; plan, execute, direct, and complete tax projects in a wide variety of industries; provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise to clients... * Support clients in making determinations related to FAS 109/FIN 48, as well as FAS 5. * Review complicated State and Local tax returns. * Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, and make sure deadlines are met. * Consult, work with, and service client to make recommendations on business and process improvement and serve as a business advisor to client. * Team with Managing Directors and Senior Managers on proposals and business development calls. * Manage, develop, train, and mentor staff on tax projects and assess performance for engagement and year-end reviews. Requirements: * BS in Accounting and active CPA Certification; or Law Degree. * MS in Taxation, LLM Taxation, or JD desirable. * Minimum 5 years of progressive State and Local Tax experience. * Broad exposure to State and Local Taxes including primarily knowledge in State Income/Franchise Tax. Knowledge of Sales and Use Tax, Property Taxes, Payroll taxes or other State taxes a plus. * Experienced in supervision, mentoring, and business development. * Experienced in client relationship management for complex clients, including large to mid size Corporations, LLCs, S Corporations, Partnerships, and high net worth individuals. * Able to translate complex tax issues into simple terms to enhance client understanding. * Excellent managerial, organizational and verbal/written communication skills. * Demonstrate initiative, vision, resourcefulness, creativity and independent thinking. * Solid PC skills including Microsoft Windows, Office applications and tax preparation software (FAST-Tax, Go systems, Vertex, etc.); advanced Excel skills. * Authorization to work in the US is required; SMART will not offer visa sponsorship.
