Oversees the implementation of IOOV. LGBT Crime Victims program will provide for all LGBT crime victims in Albany, Montgomery and Schenectady counties. The program specialist will further implement the organization's anti-violence program in fulfillment of a grant for that purpose from the NYS Crime Victim's Board. Specifically, the person chosen will: provide criminal and advocacy, emergency assistance, home/hospital/off-site visits. Staff IOOV LGBT domestic violence referral line, providing referrals to full services anti-violence programs for the same sex domestic violence and sexual assault victims. Attend day and night court in Albany, Schenectady and Montgomery counties. Recruit, train, supervise and schedule volunteers providing direct services. Log calls received from the support line, the number of referrals made, intervention outcomes and other statistics. Open new cases, maintain written case notes and complete monthly objective reports and quarterly reports. Provide support and consultation to community based advocates working in the courts. Case conferencing for specific clients. Act as an organization representative. Perform other tasks as delegated by the executive director.
The candidates for this position should be committed to LGBT issues, particularly POC and should be a community builder. The person in this role will work with other staff as we strive to build a healther LGBT POC community and stronger relationships among LGBT POC and non-LGBT people of color. Skills at community organizing and the ability to speak Spanish would be considered strong positives. Candidates should also possess strong organizational, written and oral skills.
