Empire State College seeks a highly motivated and team-oriented qualified applicant for the position of Director of Facilities. The Director is responsible for maintenance, development and expansion of college-owned and leased buildings. The Director reports directly to the Vice President for Administration, and works closely with college staff and the SUNY Construction Fund to maintain the Physical Space (PSI) and Building Characteristics Inventories (BCI). In addition, the Director of Facilities works with the College’s Director of Capital Projects, the Coordinator of Safety and Security, the Director of Procurement, and the Director for Environmental Sustainability on building codes and other compliance matters.
The incumbent directs and supervises the maintenance and janitorial staff, and works with various contractors to maintain college-owned and leased facilities throughout NYS, taking a hands-on approach when necessary. Other duties include maintaining an annual budget and drafting facility use policies and procedures. The incumbent will work closely with culturally diverse faculty and staff in a multicultural learning work environment. This position is based in Saratoga Springs, but the incumbent is required to travel to other facilities throughout the college; and is required to respond to emergency situations, as necessary.
Bachelor’s degree in related areas of architecture or engineering and/or related major experience in facilities maintenance and project management; must have code certifications and possess a minimum of three years supervisory experience. Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and possess a valid NYS drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in higher education, and knowledge of NY State and SUNY policies and procedures is a plus.
Special Information (e.g., travel required, evening hours, etc.): Travel throughout NYS and occasional night and weekend work is required. Ability to respond to emergency situations is required
