BASIC FUNCTION Responsible for organizing, planning and directing activities relative to compounding and molding process characterization, development and optimization. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Investigate methods and/or materials to optimize the VIKRELL/SMC formulation/molding system(s) for minimum cost within acceptable product performance requirements or to improve product performance as needed at minimal cost. Support evaluation and/or development of new product/process concepts. Participate in the problem analysis of specified major manufacturing process/product concerns. Support / lead as appropriate the investigation and/or development of new product/material testing methods. Trouble shoot / optimize compounding process equipment and materials. Develop an in depth understanding of the relationships between compounding materials/processes and molding process/product performance. Investigate improvement opportunities and implement. Participate in plant expansion / capacity projects. Continually investigate new equipment and implement as needed. Maintain day to day operation of compounding department. RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS Supervisory Relationships: Reports to Manager - Process Engineering Organization Relationships: Supervises one or more hourly lab technicians and production personnel EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited engineering program, or a Bachelors degree in a related field with successful completion of the EIT exam, preferably process and/or material science related. Basic computer skills. Experience/knowledge with color analysis and formulation. Working knowledge of statistical analysis techniques to include fundamentals of experimental design. Physical property testing experience. Understanding of process equipment and control including mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC control.
