This position is in the Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling and Planning Department and encompasses the following specific duties and responsibilities. The selected Section Head will be a performing mechanical manufacturing planner in support of program activities as well as providing administrative and technical direction to section personnel. As a performing section head, the selected candidate will collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams comprised primarily of project manufacturing engineers (PMEs), Tooling Engineers and other production engineering team members to ensure work instructions and related documentation are properly and accurately generated to support developmental and production efforts. The section head duties will be discharged based on general policies and management guidelines, assigning personnel to support project staffing requirements, managing direct reports employee career development, technical guidance, training and mentoring, advising and acting as technical resource on all projects and tasks assigned to the organization, making decisions with minimal guidance regarding roles, responsibilities and program staffing, identifying issues and potential solutions which must be communicated to upper management and section personnel in a timely and concise manner, conducting briefings and participation in technical meetings for internal and external representatives concerning specific operations, ensuring that section personnel understand the performance evaluation process and administering that process including setting written performance expectations for each; updating as necessary for mid-year and end-of-year reviews, and making compensation recommendations. As a member of the departments leadership team, the selected candidate will be responsible for identifying areas of improvement in processes, tools and program engagement while developing implementation plans to improve and sustain them. Selected candidate must also establish and maintain contact with internal and external customer representatives at all management levels for operations or scheduling of specific phases of projects or contracts. This position is responsible for; supporting PMI and IRAD programs and must be cognizant of new manufacturing processes (state of the art) and methods and be able incorporate these processes and methods into the organization with appropriate documentation, review of selected process specifications for manufacturing application, cost, schedule and implementation, occasional participation in capital planning and command media updates, management, direction or assistance in preparation of Bids and Proposals. Section Head will be required to perform other duties as assigned by Department and Center managers and will function as a member of the leadership team. The Section Head responsibility and authority is delegated by the Department Manager. At this level of management the expectation is that the selected candidate works with limited direction on complex assignments; typically responsible for independently defining approach to tasks. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: BS degree in an engineering field and a minimum of 14 years of related experience - 3 years in a leadership role. Fundamental understanding and application of technical management principles, theories, concepts and techniques is needed. Also required an SSBI or ability to obtain SSBI clearance is required. Preferred Experience: Working knowledge of manufacturing planning practices related process specifications is essential and experience with shop floor management applications such as Solumina is desirable.
