The incumbent will help directly manage and oversee data collection and analysis related to the Expanded Prenatal Screening Program. These duties include the continued development and evaluation of the Outcome of Pregnancy (OOP) data collection system and oversight of a new data collection tool that is part of the program's movement to a first and second trimester prenatal screening program. Direct analysis of this data will focus on identifying weaknesses in the system and improving data collection strategies.The incumbent will develop data linkages with other data systems (e.g. vital statistic data) using SAS software and should be comfortable with its use. The incumbent will help conceive, plan, and implement grants and special studies and help develop manuscripts for presentation at scientific meetings and for publication in scientific journals including representing Program Development and Evaluation Branch (PDEB) at National, State and local meetings.Together with other PDEB and Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP) staff, plan, organize, and carry out analysis using SAS to examine data from the GDSP. Oversee the linkage of GDSP data to other data systems. Short term projects include analysis examining the association between screening analytes and specific birth outcomes for which there are current approved research protocols in place (e.g. preterm birth, congenital heart defects). Long term products include production of a yearly outcome of pregnancy summary report. 20% Help direct GDSP contractors and PDEB support staff such and Research Analysts who are responsible for implementing a new outcomes of pregnancy tracking tool. Participate in the day-to-day management of the OOP data system. Provide backup support and trouble-shoot problems as they arise. Provide summary reports of the OOP system to the Section Chief and make recommendations for ongoing maintenance and recommendations for improvement.15% Participate in the drafting of presentations, grants, and manuscripts related the GDSP screening program. Present results to GDSP partners and to the broader scientific community. Manage own research priorities and serve as the lead for one or more projects within one year of hire. Provide technical assistance and support to other sections and to the GDSP program in general. Participate in strategic planning and in the development and testing of software related to the expanded prenatal screening program particularly as it relates to bringing on first trimester screening.
