Medical Clerk, Emergency Department (PT Floater) Fort Belvoir, VA Duties and Responsibilities:
Receives telephone calls (some could be from suicidal patients) and visitors to the clinic, ascertains the nature of call or visit, obtains identifying information and determines the nature and urgency of the patient?s request. Applies clinic guidelines concerning release of patient information. Refers patient to appropriate staff member. Verify patient eligibility for treatment through (DEERS check, hospital card, etc.). Ensures all treatment requested by the physician has been scheduled and reschedules appointments when necessary Coordinates the scheduling in order to avoid conflicts in different clinics? schedules. Obtains and reviews medical records of patients prior to scheduled appointments. Files results of laboratory results, x-ray, etc., in medical records of patients prior to scheduled appointments. Records a variety of physician orders on a timely basis to various charts, identifying various chemical compounds, symbols and abbreviations comprising medication orders. Assures proper completion and filing of forms in records prior to forwarding to medical records room. Interview new patients to the clinic. Determines nature of visit, provides information on appointment, clinic hours and services. Refers ineligible patients to Patient Administration Division. Perform a variety of other support and clinical duties, e.g.. compiling data for reports, maintains the waiting areas in a neat and orderly manner, provides clinic orientation to Red Cross volunteers and newly assigned personnel and forwards information to other organizational elements for inclusion in recurring reports. Types a variety of narrative and tabular material (e.g., correspondence reports, technical papers) into automated equipment utilizing the full range of keys, codes, proofing symbols, functions and applications to develop products in final form. Corrects errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation; Refers to dictionaries, style manuals and established typing/correspondence policies of the organization serviced. Daily entry of time worked/paid leave in the electronic timekeeping system. Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of six months experience within the past year related to working in a medical environment with emphasis on healthcare. Personnel shall read, understand, speak and write English. Personnel must be able to work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends. Positive Attitude Excellent Communication Skills Ability to present yourself professionally in a government environment and to inspire confidence with everyone whom you have contact with Selected candidate will participate in all staff orientation or training that may be required as a precondition to performance as may be prescribed by the hospital commander or designee. Such orientation may include instruction on automated processing, standing operating procedures (SOP), local in-services, quality improvement programs, safety programs. This shall be conducted during the contract employees regularly scheduled shift Must complete the following immunizations within 1 week of start date: HIV, Hepatitis B, TB Status, Measles/Mumps/Rubella, Tetanus and Diphteria, Pertusis, Varicella, Flu Must complete the SF 85P two days before start date Experience in CHCS is a PLUS!
