The Acute Care Family Support Specialist (ACFS Specialist) functions as a care partner with the PESS staff to provide on-site support to the family while their loved one is being assessed in the emergency screening unit. Specifically, the ACFS Specialist will provide education on the screening process and State of New Jersey Commitment Law, and execute linkage to existing family support resources in the community. Also responsible for follow-up to families and maintenance of statistical data reports related to family services. Utilizes a proactive approach to evaluate services, safety issues, and gaps in the system which may have a negative impact on the opinion of patients, their families and all others who utilize the services of MMC. Recommends changes to enhance satisfaction and assure that the intervention was successful.
Education/Training/Certification/Licensure: Bachelors degree preferred. Annual BEST and BLS certifications. Must possess the ability to work in stressful situations. Must possess and maintain a valid N.J. State Driver's License.
Work Environment and Hazards: Demonstrates knowledge of working with the chronic mentally ill population; Demonstrates ability to provide educational presentations to a large audience; Valid N. J. Driver's License; Successful completion of on-the-job training programs; Satisfactory competency ratings; Works in a well ventilated and well lighted office area.
