JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: DATA CENTER ADMINISTRATOR III DEPARTMENT: Dedicated Hosting REPORTS TO: DATA CENTER OPERATIONS MANAGER FLSA STATUS: GENERAL SUMMARY The Data Center Administrator III interacts with PEER 1 Dedicated Hosting customers to physically support and monitor systems. This includes research from online resources, books and product documentation, other employees within the support organization, and the product engineer. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Data Center Administrator III: Configure, install, and support dedicated servers. Configure, install, and maintain dedicated network components. Monitor all Servers to ensure they are not experiencing hardware issues. Keep the data center organized and efficient. Troubleshoot physical problems and address issues within the facility. Install and upgrade Servers within the data center, including server additions and server removals. Work on trouble tickets. Loads OS on dedicated servers. Troubleshoot problems on Dedicated servers. Troubleshoot problems with initial installation, connectivity, and Monitor problems. Troubleshoot problems with customer servers, which require more than remote hands support. Installation and maintenance of operating systems on workstations and servers. Installation and maintenance of Production software on both workstations and servers. Installation and maintenance of networking subsystems. Keep informed of current security threats, procedures and technologies that may affect our customers . Problem diagnosis and resolution. Monitoring system performance along with tuning and capacity planning. Provisioning: Advanced knowledge of clustering and SAN provisioning processes, able to troubleshoot new implementations. Provide feedback to Engineering and management to help streamline provisioning flow. Network: DOS mitigation, choosing and applying the best method to mitigate or escalate a request under different circumstances. May include null routes, Firewall changes, access-list changes, server disconnect, etc. Escalations may include Networking, Security, and Abuse. Network: Switch provisioning, configuration and troubleshooting. Requires intermediate level of knowledge on standard Switches in local datacenter.Network: Firewall configuration and troubleshooting. Intermediate knowledge of VPN, need to be able to review, troubleshoot, and perhaps configure.Network: Troubleshooting load balancers. Requires intermediate knowledge of load balancer configuration and command line troubleshooting. Hardware: Hardware expert - knowledgeable in non-standard hardware platforms. Comfortable working on Sun hardware, Legacy hardware troubleshooting. Miscellaneous: With the above skills, be a key player in troubleshooting multiple server or complex environments including firewalls and load balancing where monitoring alerts may indicate problems other than something on the server showing the alert.
