Company: Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (Formerly-United Medical Ce Facility: Cheyenne Regional Medical Center at Cheyenne Department: Ortho/Neuro ROLE SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Administrative Director of the services, the nurse manager has 24 hour responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care outcomes in a designated unit. The nurse manager has authority to make decisions on the unit and the responsibility and accountability for the nursing staff and the delivery of patient care. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES Provides leadership, guidance, and support to all direct reports. Serves as a role model and coach for service excellence and patient satisfaction. Assures an environment of teamwork and collaboration by fostering effective positive communications, giving and receiving feedback, and modeling the behaviors of honesty, integrity, and trust. Demonstrates excellent professional and clinical skills, utilizing the nursing process to facilitate the direct and indirect care necessary to meet patient needs and improve outcomes. Rounds on all patients on a daily basis. Assists the nursing staff in the delivery of direct patient care as needed. Supports the principles of Relationship Based Care. Provides oversight and ensures the smooth operation of the unit in collaboration with the administrative Director. Prepares the staffing, operating, and capital budgets annually. Monitors monthly financial reports to ensure the unit remains within established budget. Ensures that scheduling provides appropriate staff coverage for the unit. Assures that the workload is utilized appropriately. Interviews, hires, and supervises/facilitates orientations for all new employees. Promotes ongoing staff development and collaboration with the staff in the competency process. Promotes a culture of safety and quality. Maintains a safe environment for the patients, families, and staff. Assures that the National Patient Safety Standards are fully met. Collaborates with the medical staff to ensure the highest level of care for specific patient populations. Collaborates with the nursing staff and director to resolve patient, family, or physician complaints in coordination with service excellence and patient satisfaction standards. Maintains professional standards by integration the ANAs Scope & Standards of Practice, assuring that these standards are identified as the measurement criteria for nursing practice on the unit. Attends a minimum of twenty hours or continuing education. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES - Good communications skills with staff, other supervisory personnel, and co-workers. - Attention to details; ability to assess, evaluate, explain, teach, problem solve using critical thinking and perform calculations within the scope of duties.
