Description Union classifications of work are covered by the CBA and the work description shall be the same as stated for each classification in the SERVICE CONTRACT ACT. SCA DESCRIPTION: 25000 PLANT AND SYSTEM OPERATION OCCUPATIONS This category includes occupations concerned with operating water and sewage treatment plants, gas plants, power plants, stationary engines and related equipment, chemical plants, and petroleum plants. The occupations are concerned with minute-by-minute operation and not with marketing, supplies, personnel, and other non-operating activities. 1ST GRADE STATIONARY ENGINEER Engineer, First Class is the full performance level of work involving the operation and maintenance of all plant machinery including plant machinery rated in excess of 500 horsepower. The Engineer operates and maintains one or more systems that provide an establishment with such services as heat, air-conditioning (cool, humidify, dehumidify, filter, and circulate air), refrigeration, steam or high-temperature water or electricity. Duties involve: observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation, adjusting controls to insure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided, recording in logs various aspects of the system's operation, keeping the engines, machinery and equipment of the system in good working order. This engineer may direct and coordinate activities of other workers (not stationary engineers) in performing tasks directly related to operating and maintaining the system or systems. Workers are required to be skilled in the repair of electronic control equipment; workers in establishments producing electricity, steam, or heated or cooled air primarily for sale, and Boiler Tenders. KNOWLEDGE: Extensive knowledge in specialized functions. A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered. MIN EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent and 7 years of related experience and advanced certification in assigned area required. EAP Ozone depleting Substances Certification, Boiler and UPV Certification for Pressure Vessels, may be required. Must be licensed as a First Grade Stationary Engineer in Maryland. -IAP- IAP is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer.
