Job Descriptions - Field Interviewer Job Description
To carry out field data collection processes using Survey Research Center standardized interviewing techniques and protocols. To complete all associated study and administrative materials to specified expectations, including converting refusal interviews and conducting pretests. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
Complete interviews with respondents using standardized SRC interviewing techniques and persuasion skills. Accurately complete Computer-Assisted Interviewing (CAI) instruments, where responses to questions are recorded verbatim into a computer. Legibly complete paper and pencil forms or survey questionnaires, where responses to questions are recorded verbatim by hand. Accurately complete and submit all associated study and administrative materials, such as questionnaires, consent forms, coversheets, timesheets, travel advances and expense reports, in a timely fashion. Ability to present research study goals and objectives in a professional and ethical manner. Ability to maintain the security and confidentially of all data. Receive refusal coversheets and conduct and complete refusal conversion interviews. Conduct pretest interviews and provide feedback to project staff. Display good teamwork skills and a willingness to continually improve performance. Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds door-to-door, when assigned to a field project requiring face-to-face interviewing. Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedures manuals and work instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondences. Ability to speak and communicate well with the public. Ability to conduct standardized physical and/or cognitive assessments with children and adults in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, private residences, educational establishments and medical centers. Other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful completion of a background check. Familiarity with desktop or laptop computer. Legible handwriting. Available, reliable transportation and a valid driver's license, when assigned to field projects requiring face-to-face interviewing. Quality of voice that will enable respondents to hear the questions read in a uniform way. Receptive to monitoring and constructive feedback from supervisors to improve quality of interviews and interviewing techniques. Ability to work independently without close supervision to meet deadlines. Successful completion of general interviewing training session on standard SRC interviewing techniques. Successful completion of certification interviews at the end of SRC training. Ability to work 15-20 hours per week on average. Some projects may require more than 20 hours per week, but most interviewers work approximately 20 hours per week. Flexible schedule that will allow attendance at training and a work schedule that includes work during the evenings and on weekends. Some daytime work would be required as well. Willingness to complete other interviewing tasks assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direct administrative and functional supervision is received from a Production Manager. Functional supervision also may be received from assigned Team Leader, Production Coordinator or other individuals who hold management positions in Survey Research Operations. Interviewers may also occasionally receive direction from designated peers. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
No functional supervision is exercised.
