Under general supervision, the Equipment Technician is responsible and accountable for all activities and competencies related to OR equipment tracking, transport, assembly, delivery, retrieval and maintenance. Provides support and acts as a resource person to the operating room staff and surgical team as well as other areas in the hospital. Plans equipment availability to coincide with daily surgical schedules.
Responsible for quality control, maintenance of equipment and instrumentation, operating of video endoscopy systems, navigational image guided systems, microscopes, lasers, robotic surgical systems, and other complex medical devices. Utilizes the Real Time Location System (RTLS), and ensures OR equipment can be found using the RTLS system by working closely with the RTLS Administrator for UCSD. Work with the Epic Optime Clinical Analyst to ensure equipment inventory is properly loaded in Epic Optime. Service areas include but are not limited to Main Operating Room and the Same Day Surgery Center. Performs other related functions in support of OR operations as directed by the supervisor.
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience including Operating Room equipment management experience.
Ability to assist sterile processing manager with enhancement of processes, streamlining of operations, and identification and correction of inefficiencies.
Strong effective communication and time management skills.
Proven ability to work effectively and equitably with others.
Proficient use of MS Office Suite (including Outlook, Excel, and Word).
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Familiar with UCSD systems, policies and procedures.
Experience with EPIC and Pro-Click.
