JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERVIEW

The Intake Assistant is responsible for determining if requested services require pre-authorization and/or pre-certification. The Intake Assistant will initiate the certification process through clinical information collection, data entry and completion of established procedures. This position is also responsible for providing exceptional customer service at all times.



The Intake Assistant will utilize system tools and resources to address and resolve requests. The position requires the ability to correctly interpret plan contracts. Must display an understanding of the claims and authorization processes, as well as articulate and portray information to customers in a member-centric setting.

QUALIFICATIONS

* High School Diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred.

* Two (2) years of medical office or customer service experience required. Experience in health insurance or medical billing preferred.

* Basic understanding of self-funded, commercial and point of service products.

* Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.

* Proficient PC and Windows skills required, including MS Office.

* Demonstrated customer service skills required.

* Excellent problem-solving skills.

* Demonstrated transferable knowledge, skill and ability to complete job duties independently, proficiently and proactively.

* Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding including medical terminology.

* Flexibility in work schedule and assignments.

* Proven examples of displaying the Nova values: Passionate, Caring Respectful, Trustworthy, Collaborative and Accountable.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

A. Answer inbound calls promptly and professionally; appropriate routing of all necessary calls.
B. Manage the inbound fax requests and facilitate distribution of requests in a timely manner to the appropriate staff member.
C. Determine if requested procedure requires Prior Authorization or Pre-Certification. Create appropriate Case in Medecision verify member eligibility, benefit determination, obtain and input initial demographics for requested service to include Diagnosis codes, CPT codes, Facility and/or provider of care. Accurate and timely documentation of information must be completed.
D. Process all requests within the required timeframes and in accordance with established protocols.
E. Take telephone messages and distribute in a timely to the appropriate staff member.
F. Screen telephone calls appropriately.
G. Responsible for completing phone call follow-up with customers in a timely manner.
H. Print, correct and forward reports requested by management or client as needed
I. Assist supervisors and nurses in a manner necessary to service our customers.
