A Goldman School education embodies, first and foremost, a commitment to the public good. This commitment extends from the classroom to the GSPP living room and into the world; it is the value which undergirds the rigorous curriculum, the emphasis on applying public policy in real-world contexts and the collegiality that characterizes the GSPP community.
The heart of the school are the Masters programs that equip students for careers in public leadership, including government, politics, the nonprofit and private sectors. Core courses provide a foundation in subjects ranging from political decision making and legal analysis to microeconomic theory and statistical modeling. The curriculum also includes electives, taken at GSPP or on the UC Berkeley campus, that allow students to focus on a particular policy area or set of policy tools.
This position involves developing and maintaining the security of data and systems as the primary responsibility of the position. The role plans, designs, develops, implements and maintains systems and programs to ensure the integrity, reliability and security of data and systems.
* May coordinate special programs and projects in AV or instructional technology field, such as webcasting, video production, or teaching with technology.
* Under general supervision, implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance, security, and reliability of the system.
* Under general supervision, manages centralized computer servers.
* Analyzes, installs, modifies and supports operating systems, databases, utilities and Internet/intranet-related tools.
* Applies professional concepts to conduct systems programming, security, and systems support activities, including GSPP s computer lab, classroom A/V equipment, and the various network printers/copiers.
* Under general supervision, establishes security systems, appropriate firewall standards and criteria.
* Under general supervision, implements networked systems.
* Applies professional concepts to administer security policies to control access to systems.
* Manages larger user migrations across hardware or software environments.
* Coordinates user acceptance activities.
* Assists with execution of security control to prevent hackers from infiltrating campus information systems.
* Analyzes and prepares various levels of internal and external facing documentation used by users and campus-wide.
* Analyzes business problems to be solved with automated systems.
* May recommend changes in development, maintenance and system standards.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner, both in writing and verbally.
* Must have basic knowledge of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance.
* Basic knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
* Requires knowledge of other areas of IT.
* Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
* Must have experience in developing and maintaining network servers and workstations, including experience with Mac, Windows, and Linux desktop and server configurations.
* Possesses basic knowledge of professional IT concepts including knowledge of network protocols and how they are used on a large (campus-wide or beyond) network and knowledge of data storage, processing, analysis, and visualization technologies and how they are used in administrative and/or academic endeavors at a large, top-tier research university.
* Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits
This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience.
