Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Development of the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, the Associate Director of Development will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitations and stewardship of major gift prospects in support of the School's mission and strategic plan. This will include travel to regions with large populations of UCLA Samueli School of Engineering alumni. This individual will engage high-level volunteers to provide community linkage to development programs and to assist with specific solicitations and other programmatic elements as necessary; serve as a liaison between External Affairs and one or more student facing or academic departments within the School and meet with faculty in priority areas to gain knowledge of research interests and areas of expertise; and represent the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering to the broader community. The Associate Director will establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with constituencies and identify prospects in relation to academic priorities; organize and conduct meetings of volunteers and donors designed to identify new prospective donors for private support; identify, grow and manage a portfolio of prospects; and maintain active awareness of individuals in the prospect pool at various stages of identification, cultivation and solicitation. In consultation with the Senior Director of Development and/or Senior Executive Director of Development, the Associate Director will strategically plan, prepare for and participate in solicitations at appropriate giving levels.

REQUIRED/PREFERRED


1. Minimum of two to three years of demonstrated experience in a fundraising environment and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.

2. Working knowledge of principles and practices of major gift fundraising in a research university or institution of equivalent complexity with demonstrated ability to conceptualize and implement identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies.

3. Excellent written communication skills, necessary to write and edit letters, memos, reports, discussion documents, proposals and other cultivation and solicitation materials; ability to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising initiatives, programs and events.

4. Excellent oral communication skills to collect and convey information with accuracy, diplomacy and tact; ability to persuasively express the mission of the University and the fundraising goals of the campus especially as they relate to the Samueli School of Engineering.

5. Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate and evaluate volunteers who support development goals and programs.

6. Exceptional interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external constituents.
