BACKGROUND: Electrocardiograms (ECGs) are recordings of the electrical activity of the heart. We aim to convert 7M (million) ECGs from MGH & Brigham into a computable format so we can train machine learning models and investigate clinical research questions. We processed 3.7M ECGs from MGH, but need to process another 3.3M ECGs from Brigham.

KEY DUTIES, SKILLS, AND EXPECTATIONS:

*

Run Windows virtual machines (VM) using VirtualBox on Windows.
*

Refer to a spreadsheet from Erik Reinertsen that lists all months from 1991 to 2019. ECG data from Brigham will be processed one month per VM at a time.
*

Open the MUSE software within the VM and search for ECGs within the date range for the month.
*

Record how many patients and ECGs are available for that month.
*

Export data as XML files.
*

Confirm the number of exported XML files is at least equal to the number of ECGs recorded in step #4.
*

Upload exported XML files to an MGH server using Windows file explorer.
*

Update the spreadsheet to indicate progress.
*

Processing one month of data takes 5 minutes to set up, and 2-12 hours to run.
*

This work requires 1-2 hours per day for several weeks.
*

Simultaneously process multiple months of data by using multiple VMs.
*

Erik Reinertsen will provide you with detailed written instructions.
*

Update Erik Reinertsen via phone or in-person meeting once per week.
