SHIFT: PRN (AS NEEDED)
DEPARTMENT: CRITICAL CARE
The Critical Care RN: Performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. Utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice. Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. Identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient. Uses the Nursing Process in delivery and delegated delivery of patient care. Assesses patient needs, plans care based on individualized identified needs, initiates interventions based on the plan of care, and evaluates responsiveness to care. Identifies cultural differences and incorporates into care. Utilizes translation services when indicated. Participates in performance improvement activities to assure continuous quality improvement. Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital's mission statement Critical Care RN demonstrates knowledge in accurately interpreting arrhythmia strips and performing 12-lead EKG'S. Knowledgeable in special test and procedures to assist Physician and provides monitoring of patients. Collects and appropriately interprets subjective and or objective data i.e. V/ S, hemodynamic monitoring, EKG monitoring, lab values. Administer medication including titrating medication, IV therapy including Central lines, PICC, etc and blood products accurately. Provides direct patient care and is proficient in the utilization of Ventilators, code management, emergency drugs, infusion devices, and intubation / extubation. Demonstrates knowledge and competency to care for patients according to age appropriateness. Cares for Neonate/Infant (0-12 months) Pediatrics (1 - 17 years) Adults (18 - 79 years) Elderly (80+ years).

* Current licensure with the Kentucky State Board of Nursing
* Current certification as a BLS Healthcare Provider.
* ACLS Certification required within 6 months in department (New Graduates within 12 months of hire)
* PALS Certification required within 6 months in department (New Graduates within 12 months of hire)
* TNCC preferred
* Basic Computer Skills
* Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
* Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
* New employees have up to 6 months from date of hire to obtain ACLS & PALS
* Employees transferring from a position that did not require ACLS & PALS have up to 6 months from date of transfer to obtain ACLS & PALS.
* New RN graduates have up to 12 months from date of hire or transfer to RNA/RN position to obtain ACLS &PALS
