The Medical Assistant assists physicians as they assess, examine and treat patients and updates electronic medical record (EMR). Responsibilities include patient flow management, and assists with medical and/or minor surgical procedures and tests on patients. Tests may include EKG's, phlebotomy, pap smears, hearing and vision testing and other preventative health maintenance checks. Acts as the liaison to physicians to assure patient satisfaction with their visit. In addition, maintains and orders the clinical and non-clinical supplies for their area.
Escorts patients to exam rooms and ensures proper identification by confirming name, and date of birth.
Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
Assists physicians in the performance of medical/surgical procedures as directed.
Remains proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation requirements within established scope of practice.
Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
Directs patients regarding follow-up appointments and assists with the proper departure of each patient.
Calls for any missed outside reports/labs when necessary.
Checks room supplies for expiration dates and replenishes supplies when necessary.
Keeps patients informed of physician's status.
Secures all areas at end of the day (i.e., locks lab and supply closet and checks medical supplies).
Submits requests for orders of pharmaceutical and medical supplies as required.
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the iSCORE values of Jefferson.

High School graduate or GED equivalent is required. Successful completion of an approved medical assistants program.
Medical Assistant certification is required.
A minimum of one year of experience as a medical assistant in an outpatient setting is required. Prefer three or more years of experience in a physician office, hospital or ambulatory care facility as a Certified Medical Assistant.
Must have a pleasant personality and experience dealing with the public and patients with special needs. Ability to work under pressure with a positive attitude and ability to organize information for quick retrieval is required. Computer skills, medical terminology, and experience with office assessments necessary.
