Job Description

Operatesand maintains the JDS/PCDS/ICADS equipment. Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems byinterpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents.

PerformsPM and CM tasks on assigned equipment. Performs organizational and intermediate level maintenance asrequired. Verifies system operabilityafter maintenance actions. Documents allmaintenance actions in IEMS. Isolates malfunctionsto the discrete component level if required, and assists in incorporatingapproved engineering changes.

MaintainsJDS components in accordance with PM schedule, WIs, and manufacturers technical manuals. Performs JDS systemand network administration tasks. Manages JDS workstations by installing and configuring approvedsoftware, administering user accounts, and managing disk capacities to usefullevels. Performs software backups andmission recordings. Performs routinetroubleshooting, isolates malfunctions to discrete component level. Uses complex test equipment such as pulsegenerators, spectrum analyzers, distortion analyzers, and computer relatedanalytical equipment. Provides technicalguidance to lower-level technicians. Work typically requires detailed understanding of the interrelationshipsof computer operating system diagnostics and circuits. Work is reviewed by the lead technician forcompliance with accepted practices.

Workrequires familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgment inplanning work sequence and in selecting tools and test equipment. Receives technical guidance, as required,from supervisor or higher-level technician. Assists TCTS Operations Lead or Computer Operator V in operating andmaintaining equipment. Assists missioncoordinator/RTOs and performs MLU operator functions when required.

Receivespre-mission data for from participating squadron and inputs into MLU prior toscheduled mission. Interacts with mission coordinator and /or squadron opspersonnel when data is not received in a timely manner. Verifies allinformation received from the squadron is correct and is accurately reflectedon the JDS.

Will beoperationally qualified at designated tech level within 90 days of hiring orpromotion to TCTS Systems Specialist IV.

Cross-trainedand qualified to operate at least one additional Oceana Tactical Training Rangesystem.

Minimum Education/Experience Level


Two years of computer maintenance and troubleshooting experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Formal classroom education equivalent to Navy 'C' School or vocational school with formal training in the field of electronic equipment maintenance.

Possess a valid state Driver s License.

Minimum Position Specific Training Required


Two years electronic maintenance in the following areas:


Digital/analog signal processing;

Electronic/Electromechanical devices;

Video signal processing and recording;

Communications (multiplexer equipment, routers, bridges, fiber-optic, data encryption equipment);

Digital computer systems;

DC power supplies;

Test equipment;

Video systems;

Low voltage AC equipment;

Primary and secondary power equipment;

Auto-transfer (UPS) equipment.


Two years of Tactical Training Range experience;


Unix Operating System (OS) and network administration experience.

Ability to speak, read, and write English.

Possess and maintain a Security + or Network + certification

Previous experience as a TCTS System Specialist I, II or III.
