Position Title: Designer, Creative Structural

Reports to: Mgr., Creative Structural Design

Location: Atlanta, GA

MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Creative Structural Designer creates packaging concepts requiring knowledge of folding carton and corrugated package design, package life cycle, converting processes, packing, and feature testing for designated product line(s). They understand and align business operations and design as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

* Fully apply the Artios CAD system to execute Carton Design tasks to Inquiry specifications.

* Fully apply all GPI Design standards and specification formats during Carton Design process for responsible product line. Coordinate with other designers working on projects for same product line.

* Drive the development and modification of CAD design standards and tools for responsible product line.

* Fully develop & apply design related documentation, process detail, specifications, and intellectual property protection processes for responsible product line.

* Complete Carton Design projects while fully coordinating with Sales/Marketing, Business & Product Development, Machinery Engineering and Carton Converting groups as required by change control process.

* Function as an effective global leader and focal point for design-related detail and general communication for responsible product line. Produce materials to support the communication process when required.

* In-depth interaction with customer representatives during the Package Design process.

* Attend machinery check-out testing, or other design validation testing events, to assess, modify or approve carton designs as necessary for responsible product line.

* Accurately finalize one-up carton design specifications prior to release for converting and machinery organizations. Drive related communications.

* Train & mentor less experienced designers in Carton Design disciplines and procedures.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

* 6 years prior experience in Carton Design disciplines.

* Detailed experience of packaging design, packaging machinery, carton converting operations, and carton testing for designated product line(s).

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:

* Industrial Design, Packaging Engineering / Science degree graduate preferred.

* Carton Design capability.

* Understanding and skills in all areas of job function, responsibility for designated product line(s).

* Microsoft Office computer skills, with extensive CAD capability, utilizing Artios CAD. Detailed experience of carton design & development processes.

* Three Dimensional package rendering skills utilizing hand drawn sketches and 3D software such as Key Shot, Rhino and or other current software.

* Superior communication & cross-functional organizational skills.

* Established performance in related skills, and self-motivation.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

* General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.

* Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.

* Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.

* Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.

* Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.

* Industrial Design, Packaging Engineering / Science degree graduate preferred.
