Dept Marketing Statement
Involves development and implementation of new strategic alliances and business development initiatives. Identifies, investigates, and analyzes possible licensing opportunities and strategic partnerships. Manages on-going agreements and/or alliances to maximize the value of the relationship for the organization.
Under the general direction of the Senior Director of Corporate Development at the Baskin School of Engineering and the Dean of UCSC Extension, the Director of Corporate Partnerships - SILICON VALLEY CAMPUS is responsible for initiating, building, maintaining and expanding partnerships with industry in Silicon Valley for the benefit of all of UC Santa Cruz, including UC Santa Cruz Extension. The job entails development and implementation of new strategic alliances and business development initiatives, including but not limited to customized corporate training programs through UC Santa Cruz Extension, UC Santa Cruz faculty research gifts, sponsored research, consortia membership and corporate sponsored student projects. In consultation with divisional leadership, the Director of Corporate Partnerships develops and implements strategic plans for outreach and external relations, builds and strengthens relationships with industry leaders, high level contacts and key decision makers/influencers in Silicon Valley. Where partnerships currently exist, the Director of Corporate Partnerships expands those relationships to maximize the value for all of UC Santa Cruz.
This position is located at the UCSC SILICON VALLEY CAMPUS at 3175 BOWERS AVE., SANTA CLARA, CA.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Starting Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Benefits: This position is eligible for Full benefits.

70% Outreach and External Relations
Plans and implements proactive outreach to potential industry partners, tailoring communications to explain how a strategic alliance with the University will serve their unique and custom needs. Facilitates outreach activities and bridges.
Engages prospective partners and coordinates meetings with University faculty and UC staff leadership as necessary to develop industry partnerships.
Builds and cultivates relationships and ongoing communications with industry partners. Identifies ways to improve the relationship to meet partner needs and achieve alliance goals. Answers questions regarding financial and contractual obligations.
Expands existing partner agreements through analyzing partner needs and recommending ideas to grow the relationships. Implements initiatives to maximize the relationship.
Participates in comprehensive planning of complex, highly visible events involving influential members of the campus, community, government officials and media. Provides overall coordination for events, communicating with potential speakers about strategy and agendas.
Works with Deans and faculty across campus to understand their research and their willingness to engage in corporate partnerships.
Helps Deans and faculty develop marketing materials to use in generating engagement and sponsorship with industry.
Analyzes partner and industry research and training needs, to develop strategies to expand industry engagements.
Effectively communicates and reports program status, direction, and recommendations to the Senior Director of Corporate Development at the Baskin School of Engineering, the Dean of UC Santa Cruz Extension and the UC Santa Cruz Campus Leadership as necessary.
Assists in developing marketing and communication plans to target academic, government, and industry relations communities. Manages contact distribution tools through the campus system.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Broad knowledge of (or demonstrated ability to learn quickly about) UC Santa Cruz research strengths and Silicon Valley industry research and education requirements
Strong communication skills including active listening and critical thinking. Highly developed political acumen skills and social perceptiveness. Skilled business development tactics to persuade and influence.
Ability to work with a diverse group at all levels of the organization including faculty, staff, students and industry partners. Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation.
Productive in work volume, speed, quality and consistency. Ability to see projects through to completion on deadline and satisfy industry partner and University goals.
Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in the Microsoft Suite. Effectively uses software applications specific to industry alliance.
Ability to break down complex concepts and communicate them in an understandable way.
MBA or MA or MS or Ph.D.
Successful high-tech business-to-business sales skills and experience.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
Ability to work at both internal and external events including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work flexible schedule.
Ability to travel (with occasional overnight stays) throughout the Bay Area and state to attend industry meetings and visit partnership sites and stakeholders.
